Do you fancy a wonderful day trip full of royal allure through our residential city: The Hague! Living in the region, I can regularly be found in The Hague. It is chic without being distant, historic and lively, with a story on every street corner. If you feel like a day full of history, luxury and surprising discoveries, do a day in Royal The Hague!

Quiet start in the palace garden

Personally, I love coming to the Palace Garden in the morning. It is one of those places in The Hague where the city quiets down for just a moment. Walking along the winding paths between the old trees and fragrant flowers, you forget that you are in the middle of the city. In spring the most beautiful magnolias and roses bloom here, and in summer you see children playing and people with a book on the grass.

By the way, did you know that some of the gardens are maintained by a special royal gardening service? Every plant and shrub is treated with the utmost care!

Continue to Noordeinde Palace

Of course, you must also stop by Noordeinde Palace, the workplace of our King Willem-Alexander. It dates back to the 16th century and was once inhabited by William of Orange. Nowadays it is a working palace where the king holds important talks and performs official duties. when the flag is flying in the sky, you know the king is present. And sometimes, if you are lucky, you can see state visits or special events taking place in front of the gate.

A little insider tip: You can enter from the Palace Garden, next to the marechaussee cottage, into a back entrance. Here you will find a door at the end. This one is closed, but if you press the bell it opens automatically and you walk right into Mill Street. Turn left and you will arrive at Noordeinde.

Shopping with royal allure in De Hoogstraat

From the Noordeinde, you automatically walk into the Hoogstraat. This is more than just another shopping street. Some storefronts still date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, with beautiful gables and original details. You will find beautiful boutiques, luxury brands, but also small, independent stores where you regularly score special fun gifts or accessories.

Insider tip: Pay attention to the small alleys – there you will often find the most unusual stores and cafes.

High Tea at Hotel des Indes

If you have the time, a high tea at Hotel des Indes is also definitely a royal experience. Hotel des Indes is more than just another high tea venue – it is a piece of living history. Built in 1857, it’s where kings, emperors, heads of state and celebrities used to sleep. And yet it feels approachable and warm as soon as you step inside. Everything is served in a stately setting, with friendly service that truly pampers you.

Do a cultural finale at the Royal Theatre

A royal day in The Hague is not complete without a visit to the Royal Theater. It is one of those places where everything comes together: history, atmosphere and beauty. The Royal Theater is not just any theater – it is an architectural masterpiece with a rich history. Built in 1804, it has seen decades of the finest performances. Be sure to walk past it as night falls and the facade lights up in warm hues; it’s as if the city is preparing for a ball.

Inside, the chandeliers glisten, the chairs are covered in red velvet, and as soon as the lights dim, you can feel the magic. Whether you go to theater, music or cabaret, every night at the theater feels special. And the best part? From here you can walk straight into the center for a closing drink on, for example, the Plein.
