In the winter, we all stream a lot. Especially the streaming service Netflix is still popular. This is not surprising, because there are plenty of great series on it. But did you know that many of these series are also available in books? We have listed the best books on which Netflix series are based for you. Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar – Marurice Leblanc
Lupin is one of the most popular Netflix series right now. This French-language series is really great! Arsène has had a tough childhood. When he was a child, his father committed suicide in prison. The only thing that kept him going was the book about Arsène Lupin, a keurignette burglar. After a tip-off, Arsène, now a father himself, finds out that his father was framed by his former employer. He seeks revenge, but in the Lupin way. Tension at its peak! Hopefully the second season will air soon because after that cliffhanger of season 1, I can’t wait for the sequel! In the meantime, just enjoy the books. The first part: Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar.
Quicksand – Malin Persson Giolito
This Swedish Netflix series revolves around Maya. Maya is 18 and has it good: she is smart, beautiful and also rich. What possessed her to smuggle a gun into the school and shoot her classmates to death? She herself cannot remember anything about the incident. Not even in prison. Slowly but surely the memories return in her dreams. Is Maya guilty or is she wrongfully imprisoned? Very exciting, including the book!
The Stranger – Harlan Coben
When Adam is accosted in the pub by a stranger, his life is turned upside down. This stranger says that Adam’s wife Hannah was never pregnant and therefore he did not have to stay with her. He would also have to take a DNA test on his other children. Adam loves his wife and children, but does decide to start his own investigation. When Hannah says she needs some time to herself and leaves, and stays away, Adam goes on digging. Before long, he finds himself in very dangerous territory.
The Witcher, the Last Wish – Andrzej Sapkowski
Just something lol now. The Witcher is highly recommended for anyone who loves Fantasy. For the series you sometimes need to have a not too weak stomach and also the books are pretty well described, but very enjoyable. Too bad you don’t get that handsome Witcher with it in the books, haha. You just have to imagine that one. The first part in this book series consists of separate stories about monsters and demons that Witcher Geralt has to defeat. Beware: highly addictive, just like the series.
The Queen’s Gambit – Walter Tevis
Beth Harmon enters an orphanage at age 8. The children are kept quiet with green pills and chess. Beth turns out to be an exceptional chess talent and in no time she manages to work her way up the American chess rankings. Building a life is all she wants, but her urge to self-destruct stops her time and again. There is much more at stake for Beth than winning or losing alone. Fan of this series?
The Traveler (Outlander) – Diana Gabaldon
Many women’s hearts beat faster when they see Jamie Fraser. And rightfully so because that really is a hunk. But apart from that, of course, the Outlander series on Netflix is also very good. There is also an entire book series of it to enjoy even more. Nurse Claire travels to the Scottish Highlands in 1945 with her husband for a second honeymoon. While hiking, she stumbles upon a stone circle. The next moment, she wakes up in the Scotland of 1743. There she meets Jamie Fraser and before she knows it she has lost her heart. But she also loves her husband who is left distraught after her disappearance!
The Bridgerton Family, The Unmarried Duke – Julia Quinn
We stay in the past for a while with a special costume drama. Namely, we are going to the London of 1813. Daphne Bridgerton is about to get engaged to the handsome Duke Simon Basset. But what no one knows is that this engagement of either side is only a sham. Daphne hopes to attract other men through Simon’s interest, and Simon, on the contrary, hopes to discourage the mothers of single ladies by his upcoming engagement. But the better Daphne gets to know Simon, the more she believes she has found her dream man. Will she get Simon to love her too? This book is a little Bridget Jones and a tad sexy at times, but that’s not a bad thing, right?
Sweet Magnolias, The Most Beautiful Victory – Sherryl Woods
Sweet Magnolias is a real even-stance-on-zero-and-lovely-watching series on Netflix, but there are also books of it! The books are set in the small town of Serenity where everything seems to be running smoothly. Except for Maddie. Her husband has recently left her and her family for his young assistant who also turns out to be pregnant. Maddie has been a stay-at-home mom all this time and now suddenly has to go to work. Her friends Helen and Dana Sue have the solution: they start a fitness center with spa together. Maddie slowly regains her self-confidence and she even loses her heart again!
At Home in Virgin River – Robin Carr
Melinda Monroe has had it all in busy Los Angeles. On impulse, she decides to apply for the position of nurse in the idyllic town of Virgin River. After a bad start, she decides to make the best of it anyway. Because of the beautiful wooded surroundings and maybe also because of that handsome bar owner who turns out to be very helpful. At Home in Virgin River is the first of many. The Netflix series of the same name is based on it. Dream away and forget everything around you for a while!
Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares – Rachel Cohn & David Levithan
This Netflix series is perfect for your teenager and so are the books! Unfortunately, they haven’t been translated into Dutch yet, but that shouldn’t spoil the fun. This series is all about Dash, Lily and a red Moleskin notebook. 16-year-old Lily has left a notebook in her favorite bookstore. In it she has put all the challenges that the finder must do. Dash, a boy in a bad mood because of the upcoming holidays, finds the book. He accepts the challenge and soon the two of them begin each other’s challenges in New York. Super cute and sweet series!
