Ice Sculpture Festival

Throughout February, you can enjoy the Dutch Ice Sculpture Festival: an enchanting winter wonderland full of impressive ice sculptures and delicate snow art. This is no ordinary winter experience—it is pure magic where every ice crystal warms your heart.

International artists – also known as ‘ice artists’ – come from all over the world to showcase their talents. With their tools, from chainsaws to chisels, they give the cold ice blocks a warm soul. The best part is that you can see these masterpieces come to life right before your eyes! This year, the festival has a new, enchanting theme that will make it one of the most spectacular editions ever.

In addition to admiring the works of art, the Ice Sculpture Festival is also sustainable: the ice sculptures are made from rainwater, which is returned to nature after the event. So dress warmly and experience the magic of this unique festival!

Help pake & beppe through the holidays!

The spring break is just around the corner in February, which is why all museums in Friesland are opening their doors especially for children as part of Help pake & beppe de vakantie door!

All children get free admission when accompanied by an adult. This includes grandparents, but also parents, aunts, uncles, and anyone else. During this week (February 18-21), there will be lots of fun activities organized in museums such as the Friesmuseum, Sneekmuseum, and many more!

Valentine’s Day (February 14)

Looking for something special for Valentine’s Day? Many restaurants and cafés are organizing special dinner packages. Landgoed de Salentein in Nijkerk, for example. This estate has a restaurant with authentic South American cuisine where you can enjoy delicious Argentine dishes and powerful wines together. You can also opt for a wine tasting with Argentine wines, perfect for two.

Or visit an escape room together, go to a romantic movie, or book a couples cruise.

Winter walks

February is still a great time for a winter walk. Nature is slowly starting to wake up and many walking routes are relatively quiet. In De Veluwe National Park, nature is peaceful, the air is often clear, and the winter colors make for an atmospheric walk. For example, visit the Kootwijkerzand, one of the largest sand drifts in Europe. Afterwards, you can warm up with a cup of soup at one of the cafés in the park area. Check out ANWB routes or Alltrails for more inspiration.

Additional tips for February

Many amusement parks and zoos have winter specials and are less crowded. Consider visiting Efteling, Madurodam, or the Amsterdam Zoo. Museums and galleries have beautiful exhibitions in February. Check the websites of museums in your area for current exhibitions.
