The best Christmas movies for the whole family
Christmas movies represent coziness, which is why they are often a regular part of Christmas celebrations. A fun Christmas movie gets you in the Christmas spirit right away and it’s also fun to do with the whole family. So grab the popcorn, blankets and some drinks and sit back and relax. Here come our tips.
Home Alone
This movie is obviously very old, but it should definitely not be missing from this list. In this movie, little boy Kevin is accidentally left home alone while the rest of the family goes on vacation for Christmas. At first, Kevin is super happy and looks forward to being by himself. But when two burglars show up on his doorstep, it becomes a different story. Will Kevin manage to keep the men out? Truly a Christmas movie for the whole family! And the nice thing is: there is also a second and a third part! This Christmas movie can be seen via Disney Plus.
The Polar Express
Definitely another Christmas classic and highly recommended is the movie The Polar Express. In this movie, a little boy is pulled out of bed to take a train to the North Pole. Together with the other children and the conductor, he experiences the most exciting adventures along the way. But will they really meet Santa Claus? After all, you have to believe in him very strongly to see him. Available on Netflix.
A boy named Christmas
The wonderfully beautiful Christmas movie A Boy Named Christmas is finally on Netflix. This movie is based on the book of the same name by Matt Haig. In this story, Nikolas lives in the woods with his father Joel. Nikolas’ mother died two years earlier. When the king calls on the citizens to bring something positive because the village is sad and mournful, Nikolas’ father decides to go looking. When he does not return, he decides to go himself. Will he find his father and something positive?
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
In the land of the Who’s, everyone loves Christmas. Except for one person. The Grinch hates Christmas horribly and he does everything he can to ruin Christmas. The green monster steals all the Christmas presents and Christmas decorations because he used to be bullied. Now he wants to ruin Christmas for everyone. But of course, everything comes right in the end. A Christmas movie with a message! Available on Pathé Thuis, Videoland and Netflix.
Arthur Christmas
This animated film is fun for the whole family. In this movie, Santa has two sons, but he still likes to be in control. Until he accidentally forgets to deliver one gift. It is up to his youngest son Arthur to deliver this gift. With all its consequences. A very entertaining film, to be seen on Pathé Thuis.
Klaus
The Netflix Original Klaus is another really fun movie during Christmas. In it, a lonely toy maker and a selfish letter carrier strike up an unlikely friendship. Together they make sure that everyone in the cold and dark village where they live is happy. Of course, this movie can be seen on Netflix.
Last Christmas
A fun movie to watch with slightly older children is Last Christmas. In this movie, Kate is not happy with her life. She works as a Christmas elf in a Christmas store and has just gone through a very hard time. When she accidentally meets Tom she slowly dares to open up. A nice movie with a bit far-fetched plot, but a movie I really enjoyed in the cinema. With nice music by George Michael. This film can be seen on Amazon Prime and Pathé Thuis.
Eleven
Finally, a movie that appears in almost all lists of favorite Christmas movies: Elf. This story is about Buddy, an ordinary person raised by Santa’s elves. When he finds out he was adopted, he goes to New York to look for his biological father. During his search, he also tries to spread the Christmas spirit, which is not easy in cynical New York. This, of course, results in hilarity. The film even inspired a real Broadway musical! Elf can be seen on Netflix this year.
Dash & Lily (series)
And last but not least, we also have a great Christmas series for you. How much I enjoyed Dash & Lily. This series is all about a red notebook. Lilly, who is absolutely crazy about Christmas, has hidden this book in a second-hand bookstore. Dash, a boy who hates Christmas, finds the notebook. He decides to accept Lilly’s challenge. Since Dash has nothing else to do during the Christmas vacation anyway, he decides to make a challenge for Lilly as well. So it goes on for a while, but can you fall in love with someone made of paper? Dash & Lilly can be seen on Netflix.
