If there is one place in Arnhem that should not be missed with kids, it is Burgers’ Zoo. This is not just any zoo, but a collection of complete ecosystems! From the tropical Bush and Desert to the Ocean and Safari – here you literally take a trip around the world in one day.

What makes Burgers’ Zoo so special is that you can admire the animals in their natural habitat. Walk through the tropical rainforest, where monkeys swing above your head, or admire the impressive sharks in the Ocean. In between, children can expend their energy in the various playgrounds scattered throughout the park.

At the Nederlands Open luchtmuseum you literally step back in time! The museum consists of historic buildings from different periods and regions of the Netherlands, complete with authentic interiors and residents in costume.

Children here can bake bread in an old-fashioned bakery, take a ride on the historic streetcar, or discover how people used to live, work and go to school. There are regular demonstrations and activities where children can get involved themselves.

The renovated Museum Arnhem is well worth a visit with older children. The museum has a diverse collection of modern and contemporary art, with a special focus on women artists. The architecture of the building itself is already worth seeing, with breathtaking views of the Rhine River.

In the Airborne Museum ‘Hartenstein’ you experience the Battle of Arnhem in an impressive way. Through authentic objects, photographs and film footage you will get a good idea of the events during the Second World War. Discover nature in an interactive way at Natuurcentrum Arnhem. At various locations in Arnhem with educational (play) programs this is a perfect place for young explorers.

For example, just a five-minute walk from the center you will find Park Sonsbeek, a green oasis where children can play, picnic and enjoy nature. Climb the 28-meter Belvédère Tower for a stunning view of the city. A wonderful place for free outings with kids in Arnhem.

The nature playground ‘De Boshut’ is an adventurous playground where children can climb, clamber, build huts and play with water. After playing you can enjoy a drink or ice cream at De Witte Watermolen or picnic at one of the many beautiful spots in the park.

And in the Presikhaaf neighborhood you will find a cozy city farm Presikhaaf where children can get in touch with different farm animals. They can pet the animals, help feed them and learn about life on the farm. Besides the animal enclosures, the city farm also has a nice playground and regularly organizes activities such as pony riding, baking sandwiches, crafts, the sheep shearing party and has a store with fresh products such as eggs and honey.

Is the weather down? No problem! Visit Monkey Town or Ballorig, where children can climb, clamber and play in a safe environment. For the creative, we recommend De Uitvinderij in Dieren, where you can create your own work of art with various materials.

Sports center Valkenhuizen for water rats and sports fanatics

Then Sports Center Valkenhuizen is a must! This modern pool has several pools, including a recreational pool with slides, play elements and a rapid. For toddlers there is a shallow paddling pool. The sports center also offers several other activities, such as various ball sports. So even if swimming is not your thing, there is plenty to do!

And to keep your kids busy all day, Roadhouse Arnhem is highly recommended. This is a kid-friendly restaurant with a play paradise, slide and even a cinema. Here parents can enjoy a meal while the kids are having fun.

Have a cozy bite to eat

After a day of adventure it is time to fortify the inner man. Luckily Arnhem has many child-friendly restaurants. Some recommendations are:

• World kitchen Atlantis Arnhem: Buffet restaurant with something for everyone.
• Foodhall Arnhem: At this foodhall every member of the family can choose their own favorite dish. With all the different eateries there is something tasty for everyone.
• Stan & Co: A trendy restaurant with a special children’s menu and coloring pages.

Practical Tips

• • Arnhem is easily accessible by car, but parking in the city center can be pricey. Consider using the P R facilities on the outskirts of the city.
  • Arnhem is also easy to reach by public transportation. Several bus lines run from the central train station to the attractions.
