Dining Out – Café Pigalle

tafel Pigalle

Amsterdam Zuidoost has a new spot, and it’s one that immediately catches your eye. Café Pigalle opened its doors on Bullewijkpad in April 2026, bringing a healthy dose of French flair and Mediterranean warmth to the neighborhood. The atmosphere is laid-back and cozy, the menu is well-curated, and the coffee—Italian Caffè Diemme—is just right. You’ll feel right at home.

Café Pigalle calls itself a brasserie, and that’s spot on: it’s a place for any time of day. Whether you’re coming for a hearty breakfast, a quick lunch, a relaxed drink, or a full-fledged dinner. The doors are open seven days a week from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM. A flexibility you’ll find in very few places.

From breakfast to dinner

The day at Pigalle starts with classics like Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royale with salmon, and a Croque Madame. Simple but good, and made with care. From 11:30 a.m. onward, the menu shifts toward lunch, featuring dishes that effortlessly blend French cuisine with Mediterranean influences. The classic steak tartare with a 63-degree egg yolk is a staple, as are the Caesar salad and the hamburger with harissa mayonnaise and fresh fries. For those who eat plant-based, there’s also plenty of choice, from a vegan bulgur salad to oyster mushroom bitterballen.

In the evening, Pigalle takes things a step further. The dinner menu features appetizers like marinated sea bass with fennel and cilantro cream, grilled octopus with Greek feta mousse, and deviled eggs with harissa and cumin. For the main course, the BBQ côte de boeuf is quickly becoming a favorite, but Pigalle’s signature rotisserie chicken with fries and lemon mayonnaise is also hard to resist. For vegetarians, there’s a wonderful artichoke ravioli with Parmesan-hazelnut crumble. And for dessert? How about a classic tarte tatin, crème brûlée, or a chocolate lava cake with orange ice cream?

Snacks and drinks all day long

In addition to the set menus, you can enjoy snacks all day long. A plate of sardines with roasted lemon, pimientos de Padrón with smoked Maldon salt, bitterballen, hummus with pita, or a cheese board with fig-cinnamon compote. These are small dishes that invite you to linger. Especially when paired with a good glass of wine or a cocktail from the extensive drink menu.

A gem for Amsterdam Zuidoost

Café Pigalle has only just opened, but it already feels like a local institution. The combination of an inviting brasserie atmosphere, a well-curated menu, and a location next to its big sister, Oma Ietje, makes it a spot that will quickly find its way into the hearts of both the neighborhood and visitors from further afield. Whether you’re looking for a quiet lunch, planning a night out with friends, or just in the mood for a good glass of wine and a cheese platter: you’re always in good hands at Café Pigalle.
