A day at the beach in your own country

It’s summer! Not only according to our meteorological calendar, but also according to the weather. And now that a large proportion of the Dutch are celebrating vacations in their own country, we can start looking forward to as many beautiful beach days as possible. Because how nice is it to sit with your toes in the sand, look out over the sea and dream away in the sunshine?

Of course, we still have to pay attention and keep in mind the Corona measures. We therefore went in search of the nicest spots of our Dutch coast, where there is enough space to enjoy the Dutch summer at an appropriate distance.

North Holland

Egmond aan Zee

In Egmond aan Zee you will find several fun, hip and atmospheric beach bars. Are you looking for peace and quiet? Then park your car in the parking lot of the Kennedyboulevard. From here you can walk straight onto the beach at Juicy Kiteschool. Here you can enjoy the sand, sun, sea and active water sports all day long. Want to get a refreshment in between? Then sit back and relax at De Zilvermeeuw beach pavilion .

Wijk aan Zee

Wijk aan Zee has the widest sandy beach in the Netherlands. Enough space to spend your day at the beach. There are plenty of restaurants and bars, but even if you prefer peace and quiet, Wijk aan Zee is the place to be. You can park in the parking lot along Reyndersweg. To the left of this parking lot you will find a dog walking area. If you go to the right, you will find the first part only dunes, beach and sea. Wonderfully quiet for a day at the beach with the towel, umbrella and picnic basket. And if you do want to have something to eat at a beach bar in between, that’s possible too. Just a few minutes walk away you will find Dittis Sunsea Beach Pavilion. You can also reach this beach club via the Zeepad. Here they are at the end of the row of beach tents.

IJmuiden

IJmuiden is perhaps less known as a seaside resort, but for that very reason it is highly recommended. There is still good parking here and you have all the space and quiet on the wide beach for a wonderful summer beach day. You can park on the Waeckerpad and plop down on the warm sand with your towel and parasol. On this stretch of beach you will also find a few beach tents, namely Zilt aan Zee, ZanDiego Beach, Paviljoen Noordzee and Zeezicht IJmuiden. The beach tents are nicely spaced out and have plenty of space to accommodate their guests in a pleasant and safe environment.

Ouderkerk aan de Amstel

The Ouderkerkerplas is a recreational area located near Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. Surrounded by green shores and clear water, the Ouderkerkerplas attracts lovers of outdoor sports, picnics and water sports activities. Visitors here can enjoy sunbathing on the beaches, swimming in the refreshing water, hiking or biking along the scenic trails and even engaging in various water sports such as sailing and kayaking. And you’ll also find a fine beach club here, namely the cozy Beach Pavilion a/d Plas, where you can eat, chill out and enjoy the view of the lake.

South Holland

The coast of South Holland is another beautiful stretch of coast to spend a wonderful summer day.

Wassenaar

Do you want to enjoy peace and nature? Then the Wassenaarse slag is a must. The beach consists of an eight kilometer long coastal strip where there is plenty of space to spend your day. There are several beach bars present, but along the dune area between Wassenaar and Katwijk you will find a strip of beach that is a lot emptier so you can enjoy the beautiful coastline and nature in peace and quiet on your towel.

Kijkduin

Kijkduin is the beach of The Hague where many local people spend their beach day. They come by bike or bus to enjoy the beach, sun and sea. Along the boulevard of Kijkduin you will find a whole row of beach tents where you can have a great time. But if you want a little more peace and quiet around you, you should be at beach exit 5, 6, or 7. These are beach paths between Kijkduin and Scheveningen, located between the dunes. You do walk a bit from the parking lot through the dunes, but when you arrive at the beach, you will be rewarded by the view of the salty sea and lots of space around you. At all these turnoffs, by the way, you will find a cozy beach club such as Beachclub Titus, Pier 32, and Millers Beach.

Westland

Westland also has a beautiful coastline full of beach and nature. Ter Heijde and ‘s-Gravenzande are very pleasant coastal towns with beautiful beaches, cozy beach bars and especially very child-friendly. Every beach entrance has its own beach tent, such as Dreams, Bondi Beach, Moments, Elements and De Pit. But between them there is a lot of space so you can keep a good overview of the surroundings.

Zeeland

Do you really want ultimate peace and quiet? Then you’ll find the best beaches in Zeeland ! Here you have On Walcheren you will find many different beach bars near each other, but on Schouwen-Duiveland and Zeeuws-Vlaanderen you will find miles of beach where you can relax in peace and quiet. Are you looking for peace and quiet, but also want to have the choice to plop down at a cozy beach club? Then we can recommend some nice places!

Hoedekenskerke

Not quite on the beach, but on the Westerschelde, is Surf et Turf. It is an old train car. At low tide, sandbanks are released in front of Surf et Turf, on which seals regularly enjoy the Zeeland sun. From the terrace you also have a great view of the shipping.

Oostkapelle

After the beach crossing at the Duinweg, walk a few minutes to the right and you’ll arrive at Zeecafé. Owner Adriaan started a kind of sea container-with-fridge on the beach a few years ago. And that’s actually what the Zeecafé still pretty much is. Recently they also have a braai. Such a real South African barbecue, on which fish and meat are regularly roasted.

Vrouwenpolder

Aquarius in Vrouwenpolder is a small but fine beach house, exclusively “connected to the sun.” It is quietly located on one of the most beautiful beaches in Zeeland and is only accessible to beachcombers and watermen. Owner Paulien has the hat on here and when the wind is right Timko puts on his surf suit.
