An active afternoon with teens at climbing park Adventure City

Recently I visited Adventure City Rotterdam climbing park with my two teenagers aged 13 and 15. A perfect location for action lovers who like a challenge. The boys had two hours to fully indulge themselves in both the indoor and outdoor climbing park. They couldn’t wait to climb the ropes.

Safety First

But first it was time for a thorough and comprehensive safety briefing – a must for this type of activity. All participants of the time slot we were in were provided with the proper equipment by the staff and helped with this donning. An instructor explained everything clearly and also showed on a demo rig how to secure themselves and what to do if something did not go quite right. A fine start to activity like this, especially for me as a ground supervisor, because that way I knew everything was safe and under control.

Via Ferrata, climbing like in the Alps

Their first stop was the Via Ferrata, an impressive scaffold where you climb along steep walls using steel cables and steps. A course my men managed to complete with ease and at a brisk pace. A fun way to get in before they would really take on the heights.

Indoor climbing at 12 meters

After completing the Via Ferrata, it was time to enter the indoor tower. A wooden tower from which you can climb routes at different height levels. Without hesitation, they went straight to the highest level, located at about 12 meters high. Enthusiastically they scrambled after each other, while I followed them from the ground. I was naturally curious to see how they would fare. From this indoor route, they could cross over to the outdoor course, where they also immediately climbed back up to the highest level. I stood watching with respect as they effortlessly went over the rope bridges and other obstacles, and as they glided through the course via the various cable cars.

Time for some treats

After the first extensive round of climbing, we decided it was time for a short break. We went to the indoor terrace on the floor of the indoor section and treated ourselves to some drinks and a nice big piece of cake. I was still enjoying my cappuccino when the boys decided they wanted to climb the tower again already.

The 150-meter zipline as the finale

After doing another round in the indoor climbing park, the boys decided to go outside one more time and end the afternoon with the zipline of 150 meters are! This long cable car starts from an attic window in the indoor section and goes all the way to the back of the outdoor climbing park. Of course, they still had to go through the last part of the course to get back on their feet and then exactly the 2-hour time slot was over. So perfect timing!

The boys had a great time at Adventure City. Besides a lot of kids, I also saw whole families climbing and also two groups of adults having a (I think) bachelor party at the climbing park. So Adventure City Rotterdam is not only a must for families but for anyone who likes climbing and a bit of a challenge. And the combination of indoor and outdoor climbing parks ensures that you can climb here all year round, regardless of the weather. So also a nice activity for the autumn vacations.
