Going to the beach

In spring it is already great to be on the beach and it is not so crowded yet. Great for a long walk on the beach. The Westland dunes, for example, are located in one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands: National Park Hollandse Duinen. The park is 47 kilometers long and runs from Hoek van Holland to Hillegom. But also near Kijkduin you will find a special piece of beach, namely the Sand Motor. This artificial peninsula is a unique experiment with the aim of strengthening the coast and creating a new nature reserve. Also perfect for recreation. But the Netherlands has many more beautiful beaches. So go out in spring! You can read all about it in these blogs.

The best city walks

With a city walk you get to know a city very quickly! In several cities, for example, you can do courtyard walks. You can of course go out with a city guide, but you can also do it yourself. With the app from Walk the City, for example. Walk the City has created more than 50 different city walks and themed walks that make it very easy for you to go out yourself. They also have walks outside the Dutch borders, so be sure to take a look! Do you like history and don’t have a very delicate soul? Then The Little Walk of Horrors is for you! These city walks of up to 5 kilometers take you past buildings and squares with a bloody history or a ghost story, among other things. These Horrorwalks are great for children ages 12 and up and very educational. This makes history fun too!

To the forest

Going to the woods in spring: that’s a wonderful place to clear your head for a while. Everything starts to blossom, it smells wonderful and you walk in the shade. The Japanese even have a word for it: shinrin-yoku which means “forest bathing.” You literally immerse yourself for a moment in the tranquility of the forest. The Amerongse Bos in the province of Utrecht is a forest where you can wander for hours. The Lunthersche Buurtbosch has not only trees but also a sandy plain and beautiful heathland. The trees in the Speulderbos have special shapes! Fun to discover with children. Look for even more tips and inspiration in this blog.

Hiking around a lake

Recreational area the Ouderkerkerplas is the walking spot of choice for nature and water sports enthusiasts. You can even camp there for the day! You can dive in the lakes and rent canoes. But even if you stick to hiking, this place is very popular. From October 15 to April 15, the dog is allowed too! And you can relax at Paviljoen a/d PLAS where you can have lunch, dinner or just a drink. And the dog is also welcome! You can also walk in the area of the Reeuwijkse Plassen. A lap around the lake is 10 kilometers, so perfect for a brisk walk. The Westeinder Plassen are also great for walking. You will find various types of flora and fauna.
