An evening of entertainment at The City in ‘s-Gravenzande

Recently we were invited to The City in ‘s-Gravenzande, the largest all-in-one Entertainment Center in South Holland, to try out some of their activities. With a group of 7 ladies we were going to try laser gaming, bowling and maybe some other fun activities. In this blog you can read about what is possible at The City and how we experienced our night out at this indoor arcade.
Our outing was planned on Thursday evening and we had agreed to meet at 19:00 in ‘s-Gravenzande. Most of us came straight through from work and some even from a little further away, but we had our first activity, laser gaming scheduled at 19:20, so we had enough slack to gather on time. After a brief introduction and explanation from the staff present, and a nice cup of coffee, we were taken to the laser game room.
Laser game
This turned out to be an abandoned gas station with various obstacles such as a car, a caravan and various walls, corners and height differences. We were divided into two teams after the game explanation, given our equipment and could get started. And suddenly some of us turned into bloodthirsty killers, fearless attackers and sneaky snipers. The activity lasted 12 minutes and we fought as if our lives depended on it. And unfortunately, I must confess to being so fanatical myself that I didn’t care who I shot, opponent or own team. There were 2 serious winners at the end, but we all had a good laugh.
Ordering food and drinks from anywhere in The City
After the laser game, we arrived at the bowling alley panting and puffing. So first things first, a drink. What they have done very cleverly at The City, is that on every seat in the hall they have a tablet, with which you can order food and drinks with your own group code that you received upon entering. That way the staff knows exactly where to take your drinks. We were quite thirsty, so first we all threw back a glass of soda to recover from the laser gaming.
Bowling
Our bowling alley was reserved at The Theater. An arrangement with wonderfully seated cinema chairs and at the end of the lane, above the pins, various black and white movies were projected. The transition from laser gaming to bowling was a fine one. After an intense activity, take a moment to play a game together in a more relaxed way. While we took turns trying to knock over as many pins as possible, we could chat in between and enjoy a snack and a glass of wine. In bowling you always have 2 types of players. Type 1 is the fanatic who constantly knocks over a lot so you think they are “on it,” and type 2 is the type that manages to play the ball into the trench every time. But the fact that the field of battle was so unevenly divided could not spoil the fun during bowling either.
Many more activities to choose from
Once we finished bowling, we were asked if we would like to do another activity. In fact, in addition to bowling and laser gaming, you can also play Jeu de Boulen, a VR game, pool, darts, glow in the dark mini golf, squash and even karaoke here. Since several of us turned out to be very unsure of our singing talents, we skipped karaoke and opted for mini golf.
Glow in the dark mini golf
The miniature golf course consists of 18 holes and is located next to the laser game room. Not entirely unfittingly, this miniature golf course looks like a junkyard. So the challenge is to get the golf ball into the hole in as few strokes as possible in semi-darkness, with luminous elements. By now, of course, we had become somewhat giggly and went through the holes with varying degrees of success. The last hole had an extra game element; you had to hit the ball through a shaft into the trunk of an old car, and then guide the ball through the car with a kind of moving labyrinth. When you succeeded, the ball fell deeper into the car and the game was over.
Reviews of The City in ‘s-Gravenzande
We had a very nice evening and did very nice activities in a beautiful setting and with many special and creative elements. And not only me as the writer of this blog thinks so, but also the rest of the company had a great time during their visit to The City:
Review by Cristel: Very nice venue with something for everyone. Beautifully decorated and well organized! The bowling alley is set up in such a way that you also have a lovely and cozy seat. It was certainly not because of the space of the laser game that I lost big! Plenty of places to hide or a good shooting position! We were totally immersed in it!
Review by Yanthe: Super location for any type of party. Fun to combine different activities. Cozy seating at the bowling, so you are having a nice drink in addition to bowling. The mini-golf looks nice, convenient system to keep score and lots of variety. The laser gaming is an experience in itself, lots of hiding places and yet….. you are nowhere safe. You are fully engaged in the game and the adrenaline rushes through your body. Meanwhile, lots of opportunity for laughter (and screaming).
Review by Sonja: What a great location for a girlfriends outing, children’s party and outing with colleagues! The decor is beautiful and the games are a lot of fun. I had never done laser gaming before, but it was really fun and exciting. But also bowling and miniature golf were really fun because it’s just a little bit different than usual because of all the beautiful details. Highly recommended!
Review by Elsa: The decoration of The City is simply fantastic. During the laser game you really didn’t know where to look; danger was everywhere, from above, below and behind! It was hilarious to see how everyone freaked out when someone suddenly appeared behind them. The miniature golf courses were creatively designed with glow in the dark fluorescent colors, which gave the game a fun twist. Highly recommended for a fun and active outing!
Review by Pauline: Super nice location. Eye for detail. It looks very atmospheric. The laser game had many hiding places and it was nice that you can also go upstairs as a kind of sniper😂
Review by Annemarie: An evening out with 7 ladies at “The City” in ‘s Gravenzande equals lots of entertainment. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed in an atmospheric space where there was much to see and do. While enjoying a snack and a drink, laser gaming, bowling and miniature golf came up. Fanaticism with laser gaming, relaxation with bowling and looking for the hole in one in the dark. The City is highly recommended for an evening of entertainment.
