March 18 is National Pancake Day! On this very Dutch holiday, the idea is, of course, to have pancakes at dinner. But you don’t have to be in the kitchen yourself. There are lots of nice pancake houses in the Netherlands that will make the whole family happy.

Howdy’s Pancake Saloon

Completely in the atmosphere of the Wild West, you can eat great pancakes at Howdy’s Pancake Saloon in Nootdorp. Don’t like pancakes? Then you can also choose a burger, chicken satay or steak. Something for everyone! Children can decorate their own pancakes and there is also a small play area where children can have a great time. By the way, the open kitchen also provides the necessary entertainment because the cooks are there baking pancakes live.

In Rotterdam you can find the Pancake boat. Here you can combine eating a delicious pancake with a 75 minutes cruise through the Rotterdam waters! You can eat unlimited pancakes, so for big eaters a visit to the Pancake Boat is a real treat! Whether you like sweet or savory pancakes, there is something for everyone. And afterwards, you can relax on the deck and down your pancakes.

Pancake restaurant De Smickel

From our reader Annemarie Becx we got the tip to definitely also add Pancake Restaurant De Smickel in Soest to this list. This cozy pancake restaurant is a family business that has been around for 40 years. You can choose from 200 kinds of pancakes there and also people with allergies can go there with peace of mind. When the weather is nice, you can enjoy the terrace and it is also quite an experience for children there!

‘t Pannenkoekenship

A similar concept to the Pancake Boat can be found in Almere in the form of ‘t Pannenkoekenschip. Our guest blogger Debbie loves going there to eat pancakes. You can even order the Turkish Hair Salon Pancake here! There is also a branch in Groningen and both ships offer fun packages from children’s pirate parties to boat tours.

With establishments in Bleiswijk, Leidschendam, Schiedam, Berkel en Rodenrijs and Gouda, among others, the Pannenkoe is no small pancake restaurant. Besides the fact that you can eat delicious pancakes here, you can also get gluten- and lactose-free pancakes. So everyone can enjoy a delicious pancake. The atmosphere in the restaurants is cozy and very child-friendly.

Hans and Gretel

Zeewolde is home to the best pancake house in the Netherlands, Hans en Grietje. This pancake house is completely decorated after the famous fairy tale and is a great base after a nice walk in the woods. The house itself looks fantastic and inside and outside children can play and romp to their heart’s content. Once at the table you also notice that nothing is what it seems. Even the tables move! Just try not to mess up then!

Pancake Paradise

The name sounds promising, and the Pancake Paradise in Haarlem is certainly a paradise for young and old. While the parents sit quietly, the children can have a great time in the large playground. For the little ones there is a cozy play corner. Is it raining? No problem! In the basement there is a huge playroom for older children. The pancake house only opened in 2016, so everything is very new!
