Game night? Don’t aggravate yourself!

Recently Jumbo Play allowed us to try out some board games. We played the classic among the classics: Don’t Worry. This game is of course incredibly familiar, but we were given an updated version of the game, which made it a bit new again. I played the game with my friend and adolescent son. And I can already reveal that I walked away with the win, although games are usually not my strong suit.
Do Not Worry – a lesson in history
The game Don’t Hurt Me is very old. The origins of the game are in India. The original game, called Pachisi, was released as Ludo as a simplified version in Great Britain in 1896. Jumbo brought the game to the Dutch market in 1934, and in fact it is impossible to imagine life without it. Everyone knows the game too. I think every family has at least one version of Mens Erger Je Niet in their cupboard. And if it is not this game, then maybe the Keezen Spel is there which is actually a variant of the classic. The only difference is that you play this version with game cards included.
The game rules
The rules of the game are easy to learn and since we already knew the game we could start right away. You can play Humans Don’t Worry with two, three or four people. There were three of us playing the game, so after a brief discussion about the colors, the game could begin. To start, you must first throw 6. That’s still a tall order. Experience has shown that that first “6” just keeps waiting while further on in the game you keep throwing “6” in succession. Until you have to do it again, because then the die just won’t work. I understand why the game has this name: we sometimes got quite annoyed. But in a sporting way, of course 😉 Then, of course, the goal is to get your little pawn inside safely as quickly as possible. And to eliminate your rivals by knocking them off the board. Very simple really, but no less fun for that!
Renewed look
We still had the outdated version lying around somewhere, but we received a brand new updated version from Jumbo Play. The new game includes a plastic board where the pawns really fall in. Cheating becomes a lot harder that way, haha. In addition, the die in this version is in a dome – a dice machine – so you can’t lose the die. This is very nice since the men in our house sometimes throw the dice too fanatically and it ends up somewhere under a cupboard. Very annoying when you are in the middle of a game. We all had to get used to the dice machine because it is not very smooth. But during the game it got better and better. A matter of novelty I guess.
It went hard
So funny: we are always a very harmonious family, except when it comes to games. That always brings out the “worst” in us. But in a fun way, of course. For example, the die was encouraged to roll a certain number of pips so that another person was knocked off the board and could start all over again. Because of the deeper pawn positions on the board, you could not knock each other off the board. Another advantage, because in the past pawns were sometimes found under the cupboard. It had been a long time since we played a game as a family, but we had a lot of fun.
Yes, we won!
My start in the game was not good: I could not manage to “throw 6”. In addition, I was thrown off the board not once but twice, so I had to get that lousy “6” again. Pffff, well that was quite a job. But in the end the board game gods were kind to me and I beat the men handsomely! Of course, they had to hear that for the rest of the day 🙂 There was “unfortunately” no time for a revenge game, but Mens Erger Je Niet will certainly be on the table more often from now on!
