Experience an adventurous journey through time

Are you looking for a unique day out with children? Then go on an adventure at the preHistorisch Dorp in Eindhoven! This historic open-air museum is the perfect place to playfully learn about life in the past. Javelin throwing, cloak pin making or bread baking: there is always something to do in this hands-on museum.

preHistorisch Dorp

Interactive history for young and old

In the preHistorisch Dorp you will take a time travel through six different eras: from prehistory to the late Middle Ages. Meet historical inhabitants such as a hunter from the Stone Age or a craftsman or woman from the Middle Ages. These residents, dressed in the clothing of the time, will show you how they used to live, work and survive. You can not only watch, but more importantly participate yourself! Bake bread on a wood fire, make fire with flints or try out a medieval sword. Experiencing it yourself is central here.

Playing and discovering nature

The preHistorisch Dorp is located in the middle of nature and offers plenty of space for children to play and discover. Build a hut from branches, learn archery like a real Viking or sail across the water in a log canoe. For the youngest visitors, there are special activities such as digging for archaeological treasures or building towers.

Workshops and events

Additional activities or special events are regularly organized in the preHistorisch Dorp. Join various workshops on weekdays. Or come during one of the high-profile events: Vikingfest or the Medieval Annual Market. At these events you will be completely immersed in another time. Really worth visiting! During vacations there are special programs to do and experience even more.

During Vikingfest you can learn about the world of the Vikings: admire spectacular battles, learn all about their crafts and taste authentic dishes. The Medieval Annual Market brings you back to the lively atmosphere of a medieval town with stalls, music and theater. Both events are perfect for a day of adventure and education. Keep an eye on the preHistorisch Dorp website for the current schedule and details on upcoming events. Be quick because full = full!

Eating and drinking in a medieval inn

All that exploring will of course make you hungry. In the inn of the preHistorisch Dorp, located at the medieval market square, you can enjoy a snack and a drink. Enjoy a cup of coffee with something tasty, go for an extensive lunch or order children’s dishes for the kids. The terrace offers a beautiful view of authentic medieval surroundings.

An educational day for the whole family

The preHistorisch Dorp is not only fun, but also educational. By getting to work themselves, children (and adults!) learn about history through play. The museum also offers educational programs for schools and groups, focusing on interaction and experience. Discover an engaging and immersive way to bring history to life for your students. Be sure to leave it as a tip for your children’s teacher!
