Step into the living history of the Netherlands at Archeon! Wander through prehistory, discover the high-tech Romans and dive deep into the Middle Ages. The 43 huts, cottages and farms in the Museum Park all once stood in our country. The Archeo interpreters live in these houses, showing the life of long ago. In original attire, they tell the beautiful stories of history.

The museum park for all ages

Archeon is fun for young and old. Because everyone likes tough knights and sweet animals, and especially for children there is a great playground and a maze. In addition, they can make prehistoric music, participate in the medieval children’s games or exercise with a Roman soldier. So there is plenty to do for everyone!

Visit prehistory

Your journey through time starts 10,000 years ago in the Mesolithic, the time of hunters and gatherers. Visit the first farmers, see the dolmen and find out how they lived in the Bronze and Iron Ages.

Sail in a log canoe, get painted as a real hunter, drag a dolmen stone, twine a bracelet and learn how to make fire with a flint.

Walk around in Roman times

Visit the Roman frontier village of Trajectum ad Rhenum and meet the Romans. Visit the potter or the fragrant herb garden. Walk along the Roman road, Via Albaniana, to the Arena and be amazed by the exciting gladiator show.

Exerce in the Roman legion, have a Roman arm massage in the bathhouse, make a beautiful fibula (Roman pin) and discover Roman herbs.

Discover the Middle Ages

In the medieval town of Gravendam, you live in the 14th century. Walk in on the shoemaker, weaver and joiner and watch them perform their crafts. Also take a look at the medieval armory and take a lesson in sword fighting and archery!

Make a candle with the beekeeper, learn archery and shoot the arrow in the bullseye, show off your swordsmanship skills and make a bracelet out of felt.

Take a look at the archaeology house

Archaeology House South Holland with the Roman Museum is housed in a reconstruction of a Gallo-Roman farmhouse and displays various collections. A short introductory film about the history of the Netherlands is shown in the film room. Then continue your way through the museum past finds from a variety of periods.

Admire the Zwammerdam ships

In the restoration yard, follow closely the restoration of the six Roman Zwammerdam ships. Guides lead you around the `Zwammerdam 2′ and the fascinating exhibition. The restoration yard also features a beautiful exhibition about the Zwammerdam ships, the Roman Limes and the restoration.
