GeoFort, the most fun day out with kids
Are you looking for a fun day out with kids? Then go to GeoFort, for an outing in the middle of the country. The perfect place for kids to spend a day exploring, playing and learning. Whatever the weather, you can always go to GeoFort. In warm weather, play with water, sail on the water or adventure in the cool bunkers. Is it raining? No problem, there are also many activities and games to discover inside.
Interactive children’s museum
On the historic fort island from the New Dutch Waterline lies an interactive museum. This museum not only tells you about the history of the fort, but above all about the future of planet earth! The themes of climate, energy, waste and water take center stage. Step in an elevator deep into the earth, get lost in the climate maze, build the tallest tower that can withstand an earthquake, sail to the island in the moat to learn more about sea level rise or walk on the barefoot path and learn more about scarce resources. Doing it yourself is paramount!
Additional activities are regularly organized at the museum. Check the website for the current agenda and activities
Minecraft activities
For kids who love the computer game Minecraft, GeoFort is also a great place. There are all kinds of Minecraft activities, such as a Minecraft scavenger hunt, the Minecraft Cube Quiz and workshops guided by a Minecraft expert.
During school vacations, you can choose from as many as three different Minecraft workshops:
- Climate,
- Programming
- Virtual Reality
Some Minecraft activities are included with the museum visit. Workshops must be booked separately. Look here for more information about the Minecraft activities
Scavenger Hunt
On the fort island there is also a large Scavenger Garden. Here children can cross the bunker via ropes, do a bat scavenger hunt, play with water, make their own maze or play a life-size game of chess. The Scavenger Garden is free to enter and is right next to the terrace of pancake restaurant the WereldPan. Ideal for when you’ve gotten a nice appetite from a whole day of play!

Experience the fort in a different way
Want to learn more about the fort’s history? Then join the historical tour. This starts every Sunday afternoon at 3:30 pm. Together with a guide, you’ll take a walk across the fort island, past and into the restored buildings. The history of “Fort bij de Nieuwe Steeg” of the New Dutch Waterline comes back to life for a while in the story of our tour guide.
And would you like to experience the fort in a completely different way? Then rent a boat and sail the 1 kilometer long fort canal in one hour. A wonderful way to enjoy the nature around the fort. The boats are available from April through October.
From April through October, GeoFort is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day. In winter, the museum is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For current opening hours and information, visit geofort.nl
