Beautiful areas for a spring beach walk

Why is spring always such a nice season? After a gray and dreary autumn, the sun shows itself more often, the days get longer, and nature awakens. Spring is the perfect time to get out and about! So grab your walking shoes and enjoy the fresh sea air. We have collected the most beautiful beach walks in the Netherlands in spring for you.

Kijkduin and the Sand Motor

Being from the Hague region myself, Kijkduin beach is one of my favorite places for a beach walk. Parking is still free here and you can stroll endlessly along the coast. And if you feel like a long walk, you can even walk all the way to Scheveningen. Afterwards, reward yourself with something tasty at one of the restaurants in the totally renovated Nieuw Kijkduin.

On the other side of Kijkduin is the Sand Motor nature reserve. This is a unique piece of beach where a piece of nature has been created. During a walk across the vast sandy plain you can enjoy various plantings, plenty of shells and birds. And who knows, you might even spot a seal sunbathing on the beach.

Noordwijk, Hoek van Holland and the Wassenaarse Slag

Noordwijk beach is also a wonderful area for a brisk walk along the beach. You can not only walk along the coast here, but also explore the surrounding dunes and forests. The spring sunshine makes nature here extra lively, with blooming flowers and singing birds.

The wide beach of Hoek van Holland is perfect for a long walk. Here you can enjoy the view of shipping and the fresh breeze that makes you feel energized. Finish your walk with a visit to one of the bunkers or a cozy beach club.

The Wassenaarse Slag is a beautiful area adjacent to the Dutch Dune. With its varied dune landscape, this area is ideal for a spring beach walk. Walk among the fresh greenery and enjoy the silence that this nature reserve offers.

Beaches on the Westland coast

The beaches of Monster, Ter Heijde and ‘s-Gravenzande are less crowded, but no less beautiful. Especially Strand Molenslag in Monster is a must if you like a little hustle and bustle, but prefer not to be too busy. From here you can easily walk on to the Sand Motor towards The Hague for a real nature experience.

At Ter Heijde there is a nice quiet walk, and at Slag Beukel in ‘s-Gravenzande you can even rent a horse at Manege Noordland. A ride along the coast while the spring sun shines on your face sounds like a dream, doesn’t it?

Zandvoort and Egmond aan Zee

Zandvoort is still lovely and quiet in spring and ideal for long walks along the coastline. If you feel like a challenge, you can walk all the way to Noordwijk. The fresh spring air and soft sand make this walk unforgettable.

Egmond aan Zee is often hailed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the Netherlands. During low tide, shallow pools appear in which you can play with your cap boots. End your walk with a cup of hot chocolate in one of the cozy beach bars.

Castricum aan Zee

Castricum aan Zee is a fine destination for a long beach walk. Parking is easy here, and the beach tents, such as De Deining, are open all year round. Perfect for warming up and enjoying the view of the sea.

Walking along the Ouderkerkerplas

Besides the famous beaches and dune areas, the Ouderkerkerplas is also a beautiful place for a spring walk. A lap around the lake takes about 50 minutes and offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature. End your walk at Strandpaviljoen a/d Plas, where you can treat yourself to a cup of hot coffee or a piece of homemade apple pie from the local bakery. An ideal combination of relaxation and pampering!

Zeeland beaches

The coast of Zeeland offers endless opportunities for walks. The beach at Breskens is especially recommended. Here you look out over the next islands of Zeeland while enjoying the fresh spring breeze. Loods Tien is a great place to settle down after your walk and enjoy Zeeland’s hospitality.

Discovering the dunes in spring

The dunes of the Netherlands are perhaps at their most beautiful in spring. The Dutch Dunes, with Meijendel and the Waalsdorpervlakte, offer endless hiking opportunities. Children can have fun in the Monkeybos, while you enjoy a cup of coffee at Boerderij Meyendel.

The Kennemer Dunes are also highly recommended. With their varied landscape, from forests to sand dunes and beach, every walk here is an adventure. Who knows, you might spot a kingfisher or other special animals waking up from their winter hibernation.

Sand inland

Shifting sand areas such as the Kootwijkerzand and Aekingerzand offer unique hiking experiences. In spring it is wonderful to wander through the sandy plains here and see the first flowering plants. Just like in National Park the Loonse and Drunense Dunes! The alternation between open sandy plains, heathland, shady forests and swampy areas makes every walk special. The area is also ideal for families, as there are several hiking trails that are also suitable for children. After a nice hike, you can settle down at one of the cozy catering establishments nearby to enjoy after your walk.
