Hoogeveen – Out and about in Hoogeveen with Marian

Recently I was in Hoogeveen with my husbands. There is a lot to do in Drenthe, so we often go camping near there on mini campsites. There are beautiful hiking and biking trails, the sheepfold in Ruinen is cool to go to and there is a lot more beauty.

Exploring the play forest

So in December we drove to Echten, where there is the Roekpad. This is a play forest and experience path where it is also, or maybe even especially in winter, a lot of fun! Put on your boots and go! Bringing binoculars or a compass makes the experience extra fun. You can climb over tree trunks, explore the area in a tree house, swing on a rope above the water, there is a cable car, a raft to cross and much more.

You’ll be a few hours away in no time. And since it is an uncluttered area, you can also go for a short time. You can easily walk back to your car or bike if you forgot something. This is a great place to stay, perfect for stretching your legs and letting the kids run wild when you’re passing through!

Next to the Roekpad you will find a building, which houses a store with local products and a beautiful area where you can also walk. Including a music trail. After the whole family played “Father Jacob,” we continued our exploration.

Eating in Hoogeveen

Looking for a nice place to eat in Hoogeveen? Then Paviljoen Nijstad comes highly recommended! This Pavilion recently opened and it is beautiful! A wonderful place for coffee, lunch or dinner. I think they have a very nice menu; with sharing lunch, salads and veggie they make me happy, for the kids there are sandwiches and for the husband a burger menu. Perfect!

I will definitely return in the spring or summer because next door is a lovely big play beach, beach Nijstad. Ideal for a day of chilling with the whole family, with sand, water, volleyball facilities and even fitness for those who like to keep up their muscle mass.

Shopping in Hoogeveen

Did I mention that Hoogeveen is also very nice shopping? If you are there, at least go to ‘De Jongens‘, my favorite store in Hoogeveen for hubby with brands like PME Legend, Cast Iron, Scotch & Soda, No Excess, Goosecraft and Revolution. I love their creativity. And clothing selection of course.
