Shopping in Maastricht

Maastricht is a city with charm, character, and a good dose of burgundian conviviality. For anyone who loves shopping, Maastricht is the perfect destination. From trendy boutiques to exclusive designer stores and cozy markets, this city has it all. We’ve been out and about in Maastricht before and in this blog we’d like to highlight the best shopping areas of Maastricht for you.
A little vacation feeling
What immediately stands out during a visit to Maastricht is that almost all squares, streets and alleys have a more French character than Dutch. With the attractive cobblestones in the streets, the green foliage of the beautiful trees and the terraces on every corner, you really think you are on vacation. Hence, Maastricht is a very popular destination for a weekend getaway.
Luxury shopping
For lovers of exclusive brands and designer stores, the Stokstraat Quarter, between Maasboulevard and Wolfstraat ins, is a must. This is Maastricht’s oldest and most luxurious shopping area. In the beautifully restored buildings you’ll find high-end fashion stores like Purdey Mode, Lui Jo, NIKKIE Brand Store and Caroline Biss, jewelry stores like Steiner and exclusive interior design stores. Even if you don’t plan to spend large sums of money, it’s wonderful to wander around here and admire the historic architecture.
Indoor shopping
The beating heart of the Maastricht shopping area can be found around the Grote Staat and the Kleine Staat. Here you will find all the well-known chain stores, including the Bijenkorf. Between the Grote Staat and the Grote Gracht you will find the covered shopping center Entre Deux. Here you will find unique boutiques in addition to fashion stores such as Ziengs, Virginia, JACK & JONES, Vila and Hollister Co.
Just on the other side of the Town Hall on the Market Square you will find the compact (partially) covered shopping center Mosae Forum, where you will find many modern stores for great shopping and especially to expand your wardrobe. Here you will find an S. Oliver, Open32, The Sting and 50 | 50 store. But also a delicious caterer with fantastic delicacies.
Market
From the Grote Gracht you can walk straight to the Markt, where on Wednesdays you can browse around the weekly market, on Fridays there is a weekly and fish market, and on Saturdays and Sundays you can browse around the antique and flea market. In addition to the market on the Markt, a farmers’ market can be found on Thursdays in the Ruiterij on the other side of the Maas in the Wyck neighborhood.
The Vrijthof and its side streets
From the Markt you walk back via the Grote Gracht and the Helmstraat onto the Vrijthof. This famous square looks different every time, but what always remains are the cozy terraces and beautiful buildings of the Sint Servaas Church, Sint Janskerk, the Spaans Gouvernement, the Hoofdwacht and the Generaalshuis.
And of course, this square is now also famous for being transformed every summer into a beautiful concert stage for André Rieu’s concert in his hometown.
In the streets around the Vrijthof you will find plenty of fun and unique stores. Wonderful fashion boutiques and craft stores. For example, take a look at Avanti ladies’ fashion, Ailoo Boetiek or take your partner to Aristo men’s fashion. And how about Paddy Point or the Fred de Bretoniere & Shabbies outlet? You really should just stroll through the streets of downtown Maastricht yourself and explore the various stores.
Shopping in Wyck
If you cross the Meuse River from the city center via the Sint Servaas bridge, you’ll find yourself in the trendy Wyck neighborhood. Wyck is originally the shopping area of the local Maastricht people, but because you walk from Maastricht station via Wycker Brugstraat straight up the Sint Servaasbrug to the center, Wyck is a mix of residents, students and tourists. Wyck has a creative and young atmosphere, and the stores here are often just that little bit different. Especially on Rechtstraat, you will find very nice vintage stores, concept stores and local designer boutiques.
Outlet shopping
Just outside Maastricht you can also indulge your shoppers in Maasmechelen Village outlet shopping. This large outlet center is only a 20-minute drive from Maastricht. Most popular and well-known brands such as Escada, Versace, Villeroy & Boch, The Soc13ty Shop, McGregor, Gaastra, River Woods, 7 For All Mankind, Guess, Karen Millen and many more are represented here. And since it’s an outlet center, you’ll also score these wonderful brands at a steep discount.
Parking in Maastricht
Park your car in one of the parking garages on the edge of the city center. Our preference is parking garage Q-Park De Griend. It’s easy to reach from the highway, it’s large, adjacent to the Wyck district and next to the Wilhelmina bridge, from where you can walk straight into the city center.
