Special overnight stays in the Netherlands

Everyone goes on a weekend trip in their own country from time to time. Do you then choose a standard hotel? Shame! There are a lot of funny and special places in the Netherlands. We have selected the places where you can spend a special night.

With the chickens

In Vlaardingen you will find outdoor hotel De Vreemde Vogel. Here you can, for example, sleep in a Birdhouse with up to 4 people. Or go for the Family Ostrich, a caravan on stilts for two adults and two children. But how about sleeping in a real rocket! The Spacemees is suitable for families with three children. Always wanted to sleep in an airplane? That is possible in the Iron Bird. Larger groups sleep in the African Migratory Bird for up to 8 people. Are you cozy with just the two of you? Then sleep romantically in the Parrot. That is a cozy gypsy wagon. You can also eat and drink and it is very green. You really get away from it all!

The SS Rotterdam

Always wanted to spend the night on a luxury ship? This is possible in Rotterdam! The former steamship the SS Rotterdam has been completely rebuilt into a luxury 4-star hotel with all modern conveniences. On board you will find two restaurants, two bars, a bike rental and an Escape Room, among other things. You can also get guided tours. For children there is a special children’s tour, there are all kinds of fun activities and there is even a Playmobil room! You can also book packages such as the Blijdorp package. So if you want to spend a special night in Rotterdam and then also with plenty of luxury, you can certainly do so here!

Sleeping in a pile of Zaanse Houses

In Zaandam you can spend a special night in a real eye-catcher! Inntel Hotels Amsterdam Zaandam is special because there are 70 colored Zaanse houses stacked on top of each other. In this 4-star hotel you can stay from as little as two people. Besides a good restaurant, there is also a wellness center, sauna, swimming pool, hammam and gym. In 12 minutes you can be in the heart of Amsterdam by public transport from the hotel. But also in Zaandam is plenty to do such as cycling and walking in recreation area the Jagersplas.

Sleeping in a yurt

Want to get away from it all? Then the Dutch Wadden Islands are always a wonderful place. On Texel you will also find a special place to spend the night! At Texel Yurts you spend the night in a round tent where you can completely relax. at night it is pitch dark so you can see the stars. The sanitary facilities are a short distance from your tent and are fully equipped. Truly a special place!

Sleeping under the stars

Always dreamed of sleeping under the stars but preferably without being eaten by mosquitoes and other insects? Then the Star Cubes in Lattrop-Breklenkamp in Overijssel are highly recommended! You’ll find them at Erfgoed Bossem. The star-cubes are 9m² in size but have everything you need, even your own shower and toilet! And at night you literally fall asleep under the stars. You can sleep there alone but you can also book breakfast for a small extra fee. Because the food at heritage Bossem is very pure and delicious!

Sleeping in a Lighthouse

It really is a dream of mine to one day sleep in a real lighthouse. You really can! Harlingen’s lighthouse has faithfully served as a real working lighthouse for years and has now been converted into a special overnight location. It is more spacious inside than you would expect and includes a shower and toilet. The lighthouse keeper manages the lighthouse and is happy to bring a basket of delicious breakfast in the morning so your ultimate dream night is complete!

Sleeping in a wine barrel

Wine lovers take note, because you can sleep in a real wine barrel in the Netherlands! This is possible at Hotel Vrouwe van Stavoren in Friesland. In addition to regular hotel rooms, there are 12 wine barrels on the property. You can choose a 15,000-liter wine barrel or a more luxurious 23,000-liter wine barrel. There is even a wellness wine barrel with jacuzzi and infrared steam bath. The full breakfast is also included, so what more could you want?

Sleep among the alpacas

This is perhaps the ultimate special overnight stay, and perhaps a bit too much for many people. After all, you can literally sleep among alpacas in Drenthe! I think these are such funny animals, but because I’m super allergic myself, I’ll let this one pass me by. But maybe you will love it! You can actually sleep in an alpaca stable at Camping Zonneveld in Drenthe. You can also just camp on the grounds or spend the night in one of the two luxury cottages.
