Tasting and enjoying at wine bar Sister Margaux in Amersfoort
Are you looking for an atmospheric wine bar in Amersfoort where you can really taste, discover and enjoy? Then Sister Margaux is a place you want to put on your list without a doubt. This wine bar is located in De Mariënhof, a beautifully restored former monastery on the outskirts of downtown Amersfoort. The location alone makes your visit special. High windows, warm lighting and elegant furnishings create an inviting atmosphere where you’ll immediately unwind.
After a day of strolling through the historic center of Amersfoort with its cozy streets, unique stores and hidden courtyards, we settled in for a high wine. It was already dark when we arrived. The Mariënhof radiated something magical in the evening light, which immediately put us in the mood for a pleasant evening.
A warm welcome in the heart of Amersfoort
Co-owner Sjef received us warmly and told us enthusiastically about his wine bar and the possibilities that Sister Margaux offers. You can come here not only for a good glass of wine or a relaxing drink. It is also a perfect location for a high wine, a wine tasting during the monthly Friday wines, master classes, complete wine courses and private parties. Even their mobile wine bar can be rented for on-site events.
40 open wines and no set wine list
Sjef told us that at Sister Margaux they don’t have a standard wine list. Instead, there are always more than 40 wines open. So Sjef and the waiters like to engage their guests in conversation to discover what flavors and styles they prefer to drink. Based on this, the wine selection is fine-tuned so that you get the wines that really suit you. It’s a personal approach you won’t easily find anywhere else and makes your visit extra special.
High wine at Sister Margaux
We enjoyed an extensive high wine this evening. We started with a glass of bubbles, a fresh baguette and olives to get us in the mood. This was followed by an extensive snack board with sourdough bread, various cheeses, smoked salmon, various cold meats, nuts and fresh pickled vegetables.
While we enjoyed all these delicacies, various wines were poured. The waiter explained in detail the origin, character and taste of each wine, allowing you to not only taste, but to truly appreciate what is in your glass.
The drinks board turned out to be just the beginning. Then we were both served a main course. This one changes each time, but this evening it consisted of a delicious soft-cooked venison sucker and a vegetarian dish with celeriac, both supported by a warm, full-bodied red wine.
A delicious dessert to finish
Even though we were actually already full from all the goodies, we ended our high wine with a cheesecake with amarena cherries. Normally the dessert is also accompanied by a dessert wine. But since we still had to drive, we opted for a delicious cup of coffee to finish. In addition to the highwine, Sister Margaux currently offers the option of a cheese fondue, which several guests around us then did.
