The best children’s book stores

I am Louise Timmer-van Gaalen, married and mother of two sons. Ever since I was young I have been a real bookworm and could often be found in the library and from my pocket money I always bought books. I still love picture books and children’s books! So I am very happy about this period, because from October 6 to 17 it is Children’s Book Week!
Children’s Book Week
This year’s theme is “Be what you want.” This year’s children’s book week gift is written by Bette Westera. You will receive this gift when you spend a minimum of € 12.50 on children’s books. There is also a special picture book by Mark Janssen which can be purchased for only € 7.25. Of course you can buy children’s books in a children’s bookstore. These are the best children’s book stores I know.
Far from Here in Rotterdam
Ver van Hier is a super cute children’s bookstore in the Kleiwegkwartier in Rotterdam. You can go here for books (children’s books and young adult books), cards and gifts. They also regularly organize fun activities and workshops. But that’s not all! This children’s bookstore also has a cozy coffee shop where you can enjoy delicious cakes with your coffee or tea, but also have breakfast and lunch. In short, fun for kids and for parents!
Alice in Wonderland in The Hague
For me, Alice in Wonderland is the children’s bookstore of The Hague. It is a nice and cozy store offering picture books, children’s books, AVI books and Young Adult. Every last Wednesday of the month there is a reading. Every month there are also several activities like puppet shows by Theater Kaboem or a nice craft afternoon. The owners of the store are clearly very passionate when it comes to books and children.
Kiekeboek in Haarlem
Children’s book lovers in Haarlem can also go all out at children’s bookstore Kiekenboek. This specialty children’s book store has no less than 5000 book titles in stock for everyone from 0 to 18 years old. Also English books! Besides books, they also sell games, stuffed animals and posters. They also regularly organize fun activities, so keep an eye on the website!
In the Clouds in Voorburg
A household name in Voorburg is children’s bookstore In de Wolken. A cozy children’s bookstore that stocks many baby books, picture books, children’s books and Young Adult. You can also go there for fun gifts such as SmartGames’ thinking games and June Jars by Sim. In the Clouds has its own Young Adult reading club with accompanying Facebook page.
Young Adult books have really taken off in recent years. This is good news, because it is precisely the children as young as ten who prefer to look at a screen rather than a book. More and more young people are hitting reading, hooray!
Silvester Book & Game in Zoetermeer
Silvester Boek & Spel is a cozy children’s bookstore in Zoetermeer with a wide range of picture books, AVI books, children’s books and Young Adult. You can also go there for games and cuddly toys. Besides reading aloud, they organize all kinds of fun workshops. Silvester also has its own book club, De Leesmonsters, and a Young Adult club Boekverslinders. Definitely worth a visit during Children’s Book Week!
And now all to the children’s bookstore for a children’s book, because reading is not only good for you, but also a lot of fun!
Greetings, Louise
