Besides beautiful castles, there are also beautiful estates in the Netherlands. These estates all have something unique to offer. Whether it’s a special museum, beautiful nature, adventure or good food, it’s all possible! At some estates you can even sleep! Here’s a selection of estates in the Netherlands that we really like.

Estates in South Holland

Art lovers can spend hours wandering around Museum Voorlinden. This museum is located in Wassenaar, near The Hague. On the estate itself you will find a classic country house as well as a mega-modern museum. All this is situated in a beautifully maintained garden where you can also have a great time. Museum Voorlinden is a museum with modern and contemporary art where fascinating performances are regularly held. Fun for young and old! The museum is located on the edge of the Wassenaar Dunes and therefore also offers many opportunities for hikers and day trippers. Also be sure to visit the adjacent Clingenbosch where a large sculpture garden can be found. Afterwards, you can completely relax in the classic country house in the restaurant.

Kasteel Oud-Poelgeest in Oegstgeest is a beautifully hidden gem in the greenery a stone’s throw from Leiden. Besides a wedding location and hotel, this is also a place to relax in nature. For example, you can make great walks and there is a bike rental so you can also explore the area by bike. Oud-Poelgeest is also a place for food lovers, because you can enjoy culinary delights at their own restaurant Botanicus. You can go here for wine tasting, among other things. Are you more adventurous? Then go for a fencing or archery workshop!

Estates in North Holland

Landgoed Duin en Kruidberg in Santpoort-Noord is one of the most beautiful estates in the Netherlands. You can spend hours walking, cycling and enjoying nature here. But this is also the right place for a spa day. We have already enjoyed a delicious high tea at Brasserie DenK where we were really pampered. Duin en Kruidberg is also a popular wedding location and you can stay overnight. In short, definitely worth a visit!

Another special estate is Landgoed Hoenderdaell in the Anna Paulownapolder. Here you will find no less than 64 hectares of nature reserve where you can enjoy walking in the silence area. If you watch carefully you might see red deer, emus or Scottish highlanders! But you will also find a real zoo here! In the Lori Garden you can spot the most beautiful birds, but what most visitors come for are the felines. There is even a hunting simulator! Definitely worth a visit!

Estates in Utrecht

Of course Kasteel de Haar is a beautiful castle on a magnificent estate. But Utrecht has much more to offer! In Maarsbergen, for example, you will find Estate Anderstein. On this 100 hectare area you will find a 27 hole golf course next to Villa Anderstein as well as a beautiful extensive walking area for hours of hiking fun.

Kasteel Duurstede (Wijk bij Duurstede) is one of the oldest and most beautiful castles in the Netherlands. Because of its fairytale location on a real castle island, surrounded by greenery, this is a very popular place for parties and events. You can have a lovely walk here, but there are also regularly organized fun events for young and old! When there is no wedding or party going on, you can also just come to the grounds and enjoy a nice cup of coffee. For more information about openings, check out the website.

Estates in Gelderland

Rosendael Castle in Rozendaal , Gelderland, is fun for young and old alike! Besides being a great place to walk, bike and enjoy a tour, there is also plenty to do for the kids. There is water playground “De Bedriegertjes” for hours of fun and there are regular fun events such as a barefoot walk and a princess tour. Also be sure to visit the castle on Halloween because then the castle turns into a true haunted castle!

If you want to sleep in a special Bed & Breakfast, you should book a room at Landgoed Vosbergen in Heerde (near Zwolle). Here you have a choice of two different rooms and various packages. Children are also welcome. There is plenty to see and do in the area and on the estate itself you can completely relax.

Other estates in the Netherlands

In North Brabant, you can completely unwind at Bleijendijk estate in Vught. This estate covers about 110 hectares of nature and silence area. Besides enjoying forests, ponds and wooded banks, you can participate in one of the many workshops that all aim to give you inner peace. Yoga, meditation and retreats are on the menu here. You will leave the estate as a completely different person and you can get back to work!

In Diepenveen in Overijssel, near Deventer, you will find estate Nieuw Rande. This colorful estate is perfect for a fun girlfriends weekend. So you can enjoy wellness, participate in Yoga or take a nice walk or bike ride. There are walking tours from 2.5 km to 20 km and cycling tours from 10 km to 30 km. Then settle down, tired and satisfied, on the terrace where you will be pampered with delicious organic sting products. You can also stay overnight!
