The most fun escaperooms in the Netherlands

Escaperooms have become indispensable in the Netherlands. A few years ago this was still a very new and exciting concept, but nowadays you can find one or more escaperooms in every place in the Netherlands. Whether you like exciting stories, puzzles that crack your brain, or impressive decors, or escaperooms for the whole family, there is something for everyone. Here are some of the most fun escaperooms the Netherlands has to offer.
The most exciting escaperooms in the Netherlands
The Dentist – Delft
Blogger Narisha got to try out escaperoom The Dentist in Delft several years ago, which at the time was one of the first escaperooms in the Netherlands. As soon as you enter this room, you find yourself in a creepy dental practice from the 1970s, where nothing is what it seems. The atmosphere is oppressive, with a perfect mix of realistic set pieces and unnerving sound effects that keep the tension constantly high. The puzzles are challenging and require both logical thinking and teamwork, making it an ideal activity for groups of friends or team building. The combination of the terrifying theme and the ingeniously designed puzzles makes “The Dentist” an unforgettable experience that will stay with you for a long time.
The Amsterdam Catacombs – Amsterdam
If you love horror and mystery, then The Amsterdam Catacombs is for you. Located under a church in the heart of Amsterdam, this escaperoom combines elements of a haunted house with an immersive puzzle experience. The story, in which you take on dark forces as the protagonist, is supported by terrifying effects and actors who pull you completely into the story. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget.
Room 237 – Volkel
This room, inspired by the iconic hotel from “The Shining,” is a must for horror fans. Room 237 is an escaperoom that focuses on atmosphere and story. You enter a mysterious hotel room where strange things happen, and you must solve riddles to escape. The tension builds slowly, making for an oppressive but also unforgettable experience.
Escape Room Rijswijk – The Execution
For those who like a bit of creepiness, “The Execution” in Rijswijkis a must-try. You receive a mysterious letter inviting you to attend an execution in the infamous State Prison, of a prisoner named J. Blackwire. With buckling knees, you enter the prison. What has happened here before? Who ever inhabited these cells? It soon becomes clear that your visit will take an unexpected turn.
Escaperooms for real puzzle masters
The Lost Package in Zwolle
Zwolle is home to “The Lost Package,” an escaperoom that focuses on a mysterious mail package that was never delivered. This room is known for its clever puzzles and surprising twists. It’s a perfect option for groups who like a good challenge without getting too scary. Plus, the location is beautiful, located in a historic building in downtown Zwolle.
The Dome – Bunschoten
In the world of escaperooms, The Dome in Bunschoten is known as one of the best in the world. This high-tech escaperoom takes you on a futuristic adventure filled with amazing special effects and complex puzzles. The immersion is so complete that you truly feel like you are in another world. The Dome is a must-visit for the experienced escaperoom player looking for a challenging experience.
Sherlocked – The Vault – Amsterdam
Sherlocked is one of the most famous escaperooms in Amsterdam and has several rooms, of which The Vault is perhaps the most challenging. In this room, you try to crack a fictitious vault in the old vault rooms of the Beurs van Berlage. The location itself adds immensely to the atmosphere and realism of the escaperoom. It is highly recommended for groups who like thrills and suspense.
Escaperooms on location
through Escaperoom TIME, you can play different escapegames on location. For example, play ‘From Russia with Love’ in the beautiful city center of Utrecht. Or go in this same city looking for the spicy riddles and puzzles that “El Profesor” has hidden during the citygame La Casa de Papel.
And fun for at home: Unlock the Bottle. You can choose between a wine game and a beer game. While tasting and puzzling, you and your family (with older children, of course!) or friends will arrive at the solution. For children there is the Lemonade Experiment where children between the ages of 6 and 11 help Professor Limostein create a secret magic potion.
Escaperoom for children
Our reader Pauline was at Inside out Emmen, together with her children. Here you go back in time to 1924, during the Olympics, where athlete Helen Johnson inexplicably disappeared. The room is all about unraveling the mystery surrounding her disappearance.
In Amsterdam, children ages 9 and up dive into the time machine at Backspace Escaperooms. And in Alkmaar, they can let themselves be enchanted in the Wizard School for ages 8 and up.
And in Maasland, near Rotterdam you will find a wonderful escaperoom for children at Hoeve Bouwlust. The Bonte Beestenboel van Bouwlust! This escaperoom is all about farm life and can be played with children as young as 7 years old. De Vreemde Vogel in Vlaardingen also has its own escaperoom. This one is already suitable for families with children as young as 4 years old!
Whether you like horror, high-tech, or just a good story, the escaperooms in the Netherlands offer something for everyone. These rooms are all unique and know how to draw players completely into their story. If you are looking for a new adventure, these escaperooms are definitely worth a try.
