Have you ever heard of the Zeeland village of Turkeye? No. Well neither did I until recently, but I’m definitely going back there! Why? Because of my weekend getaway in White House!

Turkeye

The tiny village of Turkeye is located in the province of Zeeland. In Zeelandic Flanders to be exact. There are 22 houses in total and that’s it. So no supermarket, pub or church. It is surrounded by green meadows so you can completely relax. Iske Geertman rents out no less than two cute little houses in this village via airbnb, namely Lief Huisje and Wit Huisje. You can spend a really special night here. I stayed in Wit Huisje and it was fantastic.

White Cottage

The contact with Iske was very pleasant from the start. I have no experience with airbnb so I emailed a few questions. I had an answer within an hour! So we went to Zeeland full of expectations and with great enthusiasm. When we arrived at Turkeye, we first accidentally drove past it. That, of course, was already hilarious. But once we were in front of the destination we instantly fell in love. What a cute little house, what a sweet little street and what a lovely, peaceful setting!

So cute!

Really everything about White House is adorable! It is relatively small, but everything, really everything is there. The first thing you see when you enter is the kitchen. You actually step into the past a little bit, but modern enough that it has all the conveniences. On the kitchen table the guest book was already open waiting for us. Iske had even put a personal message in it! What a service! The bathroom is completely renovated and very bright. The garden room is so cozy that we could see ourselves sitting there with a good book. The garden is wonderfully wild and there are seats everywhere so you can follow the sun. There is also a beautiful white tree in bloom whose flowers smell wonderful. The bedroom is reached by stairs. The stairs creak a little, but that’s exactly what gives the cottage character. There is even a study. We decided to make it our eight-year-old son’s bedroom. In principle, the house is only suitable for two people, but Iske was so kind that we could bring our son.

Cat Homie

After we took a tour of the cottage, we were met downstairs by loud meowing. At the door was Homie, the neighboring cat. When we opened the door it was clear that Homie came to White House often. He also knew exactly where to find the kibble! Homie was still a bit anxious during the first meeting, but that didn’t last long, The next day he even welcomed us home when we returned from Bruges and walked ahead of us to Wit Huisje. What a clever cat! Sonlief was of course completely in love with Homie. So tears flowed profusely when, on Sunday, we returned home.

Lots to do

Turkeye is a fantastic base for a weekend in Zeeland. Everything is nearby! The sea and the beach are nearby and Belgium is also a quick drive away. We then did an awful lot of things! But that’s too much for this blog, so keep an eye on the site! We have another favorite province for a weekend away!
