4 tips to get through the winter well

It’s winter in the Netherlands! Now of course you can just let it happen to you. One winter is not the other, so we all have to see if we can make snowmen and ice skates. But there are still some things that are wise to do and some tips to make winter extra cozy. We have 4 smart tips for you!
Tip 1: Winterize the car
In the car, it’s smart to have a number of items up for grabs during the winter. The most important, of course, is an ice scraper. And if like me you are a lazy scraper make sure you have a windshield liner in the car. Place it over the windshield when you get home and you’ll only have to scratch the side windows the next morning.
For the rear window, just turn on the windshield heater. It is also not unimportant to have winter wiper fluid. This is because it does not freeze, making it good to use even in winter. Just be careful not to use it directly in the morning while it is still freezing. This is because if both the car and the outside air are still cold, it will freeze directly on the windshield and you won’t be able to see your hand in front of your face.
Tip 2: Winterize your home
One thing I have forgotten for two winters and have been punished severely for doing so is shutting off my outdoor faucet. Because when the water in the faucet freezes, it expands and cracks form in the pipe or at the faucet connection. Make sure you not only shut off the main coupling of the outdoor faucet, but also leave the faucet itself open. Because otherwise the water still in the pipes will still not be able to drain.
Inside, it is smart to clean the radiators from dust before you start heating up. Before you know it there is a musty smell of dust all over your house.
Furthermore, you should make your home cozy. So have your favorite slippers ready, make sure the fleece blankets are up for grabs by the couch and make it cozy with soft lighting, candles and delicious winter comfort food. Want tips? Tip 3: Winterize the garden
Make sure the garden furniture is wrapped in covers and that you have stored the garden cushions in a dry place. Also take a good look at the plants and grass. Does it need mowing? Would it be wise to sprinkle some more lime on the lawn? And are all plants hardy? Plants in pots are best put inside and vulnerable perennials can be wrapped with bubble wrap. You can also place or hang cozy outdoor lights. This gives a lot of atmosphere when you are sitting inside nice and warm and also in winter involves your garden in your home. Also hang something tasty for the birds, such as fat balls or string peanut strings together with the children. Make it a nice family activity.
Tip 4: Get out and about in winter, too
No matter how cozy your home is, it’s also nice to get out and about in the winter. And it’s always good and healthy to get some fresh air. Take the family to the beach, the woods or the dunes! Now fingers crossed that there will be snow, because then of course it is extra fun to be outside!
