In Limburg you will find many differences in altitude. This makes Limburg very attractive for biking and hiking. You can make tours in the forests, in the hills and through the picturesque villages of Limburg.

Hiking in the mountains of Limburg

Limburg is the only province in the Netherlands with real “mountains,” namely the Vaalserberg (322 m), Vrouwenheide (216 m) and the Sint Pietersberg (107 m). This makes Limburg an ideal province for active and sporty outings such as hiking and mountain biking.

Are you a real hiking bug? Then the hiking route from Vaals to Moresnet is the ultimate challenge. You walk from Vaals to the Drielandenpunt, into Belgium and back again. The hike contains several hefty climbs, so it’s pretty tough. But then you are constantly promised with beautiful views. The hike is 18 kilometers long.

Want to enjoy the beautiful views, but are less athletic? No problem! Then the Gulpen walking route is really for you. This route is only 1.8 kilometers long, but takes you through the beautiful hilly landscape of Gulpen. Is 1.8 kilometers just too short? There are many more beautiful hiking trails around Gulpen varying from 1 to 9 kilometers. You can find these walking routes on Walking in Gulpen from Visit Zuid Limburg.

Cycling in the Limburg Mountains

In the Limburg hills it is of course also beautiful cycling. For example, do you already know the South Limburg Wine Route ? Limburg has several beautiful vineyards and this 75 kilometer route leads you through well known and lesser known vineyards. A real Burgundian route!

Do you want a challenge? Then choose the Heuvelland cycling route of 55.7 kilometers. This route takes you through the real hilly part of Limburg and has several steep climbs in store for you!

But the castles route is also highly recommended! Limburg is full of beautiful castles. This route of 32.2 kilometers has also been developed by Visit Zuid Limburg and takes you along several beautiful castles, estates and panoramic views.

Cycling in caves

Want a cycling experience you won’t get anywhere else but in Limburg? Then go cycling in Limburg’s marl caves. This is because you can take bike rides through the long, cluttered, cave passages here. ASP Adventure is the organization that can take care of this for you.
