Walking in Noord-Holland

North Holland is perfect for a nice walk. There are beautiful natural areas but city walks are also great to do.

NS-walk Kennemerduinen

One of North Holland’s National Parks is National Park Zuid-Kennemerland. A nice walk to do is the 15 or 16 km NS-walk Kennemerduinen. You will pass through the estates Duin-en Kruidberg and Midden Herenduin, among others. From Strand & Duinpaviljoen Parnassia aan Zee you can choose to walk towards the beach of Zandvoort (15 km) or towards Station Overveen (16 km).

Amsterdam Dunes Tour

Wandelen meisje gras

Do you feel like a spirited walk of 30 km? Then the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen round trip is highly recommended! During this walk you will be treated to beautiful views and a very varied landscape. You will encounter dunes, forests, heath and water. Ideal for the experienced hiker.

Hiking at the Naardermeer

A while ago we were allowed to explore the Naardermeer by boat with forester Hanne Tersmette, but also on foot this nature reserve is beautiful to walk. The Naardermeer route is a route of just over 16 km, but is definitely worthwhile. This route goes right through meadows and over exciting duckboards. The Onrustroute is also a beautiful walk of almost 17 km and takes you to Muiderberg. Children along? Then the Muggenbultroute of 2.25 km is highly recommended. Along the way you may even encounter cormorants and purple herons! The St. Vitus Route is a more urban route of just over 6 km. This route enters Naarden fortress, among other places.

Hiking on the Zaanse Schans

Heidegebied wandelen

The Zaanse Schans is also quite a beautiful hiking area. You have several hiking routes of different distances here. There are even apps that make it very easy to map out your walking route. Look here for more information.

City walks in North Holland

Would you rather go hiking in one of the fun cities that North Holland has to offer? Then there are plenty of options as well. Take Alkmaar, for example. This city has a beautiful historic center where you can enjoy walking. Also Beverwijk has a beautiful center where you can stroll. Of course, do not miss Volendam when you are in North Holland. We found a nice walk for you here as well.

If you like cycling, Noord-Holland is the place to be. We’ve found some great cycling routes for you.

Cycle route Goois Nature Reserve

Do you like heathland? Then cycling through the Goois Nature Reserve is for you. In late August and September it is beautiful there! This bicycle route is 40 km, so also for the less experienced cyclist perfectly doable.

Cycling in Amsterdam

Fietsen Noord-Holland

We also found a nice bike route in Amsterdam. This route is 17 km and leads you around the big crowds. The bike route Rondje Amsterdam takes you to the most beautiful spots in the city. Highly recommended if you want to combine the big city with being outdoors.

Lay route

Is it a warm day? Then the 43 km Lekenroute is definitely doable. You pass by and through very watery areas, so getting off to paddle is definitely doable. You also pass through pleasant North Holland villages such as Oostblokker, Westwoud and Zwaagdijk. Really a nice route!

Dune water route

It is also great for cycling and walking in and around Castricum. The Duinwaterroute is a beautiful route right through the Noordhollands Duinreservaat. For the bicycle route you do need a day pass. This is available for a small fee here.
