Fun outings with animals during Animal Day
October 4 is Animal Day again! That’s when you will probably spoil your pet. But even if you don’t have animals of your own, you can still celebrate Animal Day. We have tips for you to be among the animals all day long! But you can also celebrate Animal Day on other days. The animals don’t mind.
Walk on the beach with the dog
Yay! It’s October! That means the dogs can go to the beach again. And how nice is it to let your four-legged friend run wild on the beach? Playing with other dogs and the waves of the sea is the ultimate outing for the dog. Of course, it is also wonderful for the owners to see the animals romping on the beach. We have tips for you for beautiful beaches, such as in the Westland, where you can take wonderful beach walks in the fall.
Horseback riding on the beach
Of course, you can also enjoy horseback riding on the beach. That too is allowed again in October. You can bring your own horse for a nice ride, but if you do not have a horse, there are also stables that organize beach rides. These include Manege Bakker in Noordwijk, Manege de Baarshoeve in Zandvoort and Manege Wittebrug in Scheveningen.
Walk in the woods with the dog
At least as nice as running on the beach is taking a walk in the woods in autumn with your dog. There are several places you can do that, too, of course. Animals love to sniff the fallen leaves and pick up the scents of other dogs and forest dwellers.
Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer places where your dog can run freely without a leash. You can still do that at De Lage Duinen (Soest, Utrecht), the Loonse en Drunense Bossen(North Brabant), the Bentwoud in Boskoop and the Lage Bergse Bos near Rotterdam. Cuddling and pampering
Cats and small pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs and birds unfortunately cannot be taken along so easily. These animals often prefer to stay in their own environment. Of course, you can spoil them with treats and fun toys. Or a new accessory for the cage, such as a nice soft and warm bed or a rope ladder to enjoy clambering on. You’ll find everything you’re looking for at pet stores. Do you live near The Hague and immediately feel like an outing? Then visit Avonturia de Vogelkelder! There you will find everything for your own pet, but there are also special animals to see and children can play there!
Visit a cat cafe
Love cats but don’t have one of your own? Then pay a visit to a cat cafe! In Rotterdam there is the Pebbles Kitty Cat Café where adopted cats have a wonderful life. Also in Groningen you can cuddle cats at Kattencafé Op z’n Kop or at Kattencafé Poeslief. In Haarlem it is also cozy at Jippies Kattencafé. For all these cafes, however, you should make a reservation in advance just to be sure. There are more people who like to cuddle cats!
Visit a zoo!
Zoos are always fun to visit, of course it doesn’t have to be Animal Day for that. There are always people who find it awkward to see animals in a cage, but fortunately zoos are being adapted more and more so that animals find it very pleasant. Of course, there are a lot of very large and well-known zoos, but there are also a lot of small, somewhat unknown zoos that are also definitely worth visiting! Walking with alpacas
Alpacas are hip and hot! Everyone finds those fluffy, big-bodied sheep cute and attractive. They are also very cuddly and you can walk with them in several places in the Netherlands! You can walk with alpacas in Noord-Brabant, among other places, at Alpacafarm Vorstenbosch. Also in Drenthe, in the village of Tiendeveen, you can walk with alpacas at Zonneveld Alpacas. In Utrecht, besides walking with alpacas, you can also cuddle with cows at KnuffelKoe enzo. And in Zeeland you can even walk with them on the beach at Alpacas Zeeland!
