Lock Zeist

Did you know that there are many beautiful castles in the Utrecht region? Visit Utrecht Region has mapped them all. For you, as part of the campaign Kom naar Buiten! So you can have a nice day out. And even though you can’t go inside right now because of the latest Corona measures, the castle gardens are really beautiful! So too are those of Slot Zeist.

The history of Slot Zeist

The castle as we know it today was built by Willem Adriaan van Nassau, the grandson of Maurice of Orange. The construction took from 1677 to 1686. He also immediately had a beautiful English country park laid out, which is still largely intact today. In 1924 the castle was purchased by the Municipality of Zeist and shortly thereafter substantially renovated. Here the old Baroque style was restored. In terms of appearance, the current castle does not really differ from the old one!

Winter Wonderland

The Winter Wonder land in Zeist could be visited until January 9. Unfortunately, many activities could not take place, but fortunately the skating rink could stay open because it was classified as an outdoor sports venue. Hopefully, Winter Wonderland can be fully enjoyed again next year!

Slot Zeist today

Today Slot Zeist is a very popular wedding location. But also for art and culture the castle is really worth a visit. When they are open again, you can book a tour accompanied by an expert guide. Or you can relax in the cozy Orangerie with a nice snack and drink. This has recently been completely remodeled.

Unfortunately, when we arrived, the castle was already closed. And a day later everything went into lockdown. These above beautiful interior photos are therefore from Slot Zeist itself.
