Lunch bij Fouquet by Meere in Den Haag

Sometimes you have those invitations that you don’t have to think about for a second. The invitation to have lunch at Fouquet by Meere in The Hague on a Sunday afternoon was one of those. Last year we already attended the opening of this restaurant on the Javastraat and we were enthusiastic about it then as well. So we were very curious to see how the restaurant has developed over the past year. So we were happy to visit them again.

Upon entering we were warmly welcomed by Linsey, who gave us a nice window seat. At that moment it was still quiet in the restaurant, but soon more and more guests came in and before we knew it the place was almost completely full and there was a relaxed, cozy atmosphere. That really says it all.

A nice atmosphere that immediately feels good

What immediately stands out at Fouquet by Meere is the combination of coziness and a touch of luxury. The decor is stylish and warm, without being stiff. It is one of those places where it is just as easy to have an extensive lunch with colleagues or friends as it is to celebrate something with the whole family.

We soon struck up a conversation with co-owner Ferri, who runs the restaurant with his father Raymond and his brother Donovan. With visible pleasure, he talked about the past year, how things have gone and the plans they still have. You can feel that passion and pride immediately. Truly a family business with heart and soul.

Pampered with a five-course lunch

We were truly pampered that afternoon with a five-course menu. Even before the first course appeared, the feast began with an amuse bouche of steak tartare. A fine entrée that immediately set the tone.

This was followed by a beautiful salmon tartare and a delicious fresh pea soup that was surprisingly tasty and subtle in flavor. Next we were served a beautiful sea bass with scallops. Subtle, refined and perfectly balanced. As a main course, my table-mate got a dish of ribeye with stew, while I myself got a fish trio of Argentine prawns, tuna tataki and salmon. Each of these dishes were not only beautifully presented, but more importantly, incredibly delicious.

And then there was dessert. Chef-owner Raymond gave this a personal twist by combining cheesecake and crème brûlée in one dessert. An original and especially delicious ending to this lunch.

Personal attention makes the difference

What made this afternoon very pleasant and special was the personal attention. Raymond himself stopped by to ask all the guests if everything was to their liking and if it tasted good. He also had a chat with us. Meanwhile, Ferri and his sister effortlessly kept the atmosphere in the restaurant lively and cozy. You feel that everything is right. From the welcome to the last cup of coffee.

The love for good food and socializing is palpable here. Just that personal touch makes the restaurant special and ensures that you don’t feel like a number here, but a guest.

A place to come back to

Our conclusion is clear. This was a wonderful taste experience in a fine, welcoming setting. We would very much like to come back here again soon.

Fouquet by Meere is open Wednesday through Sunday for lunch. On Thursday and Friday you can also come here for dinner. It is also possible to organize private dining here, in the restaurant itself, at the family table in the back or in the conservatory. Ideal for a birthday, anniversary or just a special evening with people you love.

Looking for a restaurant where enjoyment, good food, a beautiful atmosphere and genuine hospitality come together? Then be sure to put Fouquet by Meere on your list. Chances are, like us, you’ll soon want to go back again.
