Tiengemeten

Tiengemeten is an island in South Holland under the smoke of Rotterdam. The island belongs to Hoekse Waard and is a true paradise for hikers and children, because you can play and romp around wonderfully. Especially children with an adventurous spirit will love it there. Just don’t be surprised if they come back very dirty.

The natural playground of Tiengemeten

Speelnatuur in Tiengemeten is wet and messy, exciting and adventurous. They can build huts, climb, clamber and play with water. The water is shallow everywhere and is warmed up quickly by the sun. Ideal! For smaller children, a separate play island has been created near the terrace, so while you are enjoying the sun, your children can play safely. Speelnatuur is part of Natuurmonumenten and their Oerrr concept fits in perfectly with Tiengemeten!

A real day out

To get to the island of Tiengemeten you have to take the ferry across. This immediately gives you a vacation feeling! Okay, it’s not very far from the mainland, but still! The nature island is an oasis of peace and therefore, if you are very quiet, you can even spot bald eagles and beavers! At the entrance to Speelnatuur you will find the agricultural museum where you can also take a look right away. And after a good day of playing, running and flying, it is of course great to finish off with a tasty pancake. But Tiengemeten is really not only for children who want to play, but also adults love it there, because it really is a walking island!

Hiking on Tiengemeten

Do you have kids with you who still have energy for 10 even after (or before) playing? Then take them along for the Beaver Walking Route. This route is 3.5 km and therefore also fine for children. Do you really want to see more of the island and the kids aren’t with you? Then do the 10 km walk Around the Wilderness. Among other things, you will pass rugged marshland for a real island feeling. Follow the blue arrows and enjoy the beautiful walk.
