The most beautiful Dutch nature reserves

Spring is finally making its appearance. The perfect time to call the family or group of friends together and spend a day in nature. Don’t forget a men’s raincoat, of course, because April does what it wants. These are the most beautiful natural areas in the Netherlands.
The Biesbosch
In Brabant you will find the beautiful Biesbosch, which cannot be compared to any other nature reserve in the Netherlands. Buying a raincoat before you leave for the Biesbosch is a good idea, because it can get quite wet here. In this river rich area you can enjoy boating and regularly moor to browse around. With a little luck you will spot a beaver. In the summer you can also swim here and there in the Biesbosch.
The Wadden area
When we talk about the most beautiful natural areas in the Netherlands, of course we absolutely cannot skip the Wadden area. The Wadden area is not on the UNESCO World Heritage List for nothing. The five Wadden Islands are ideal for cycling or hiking, and if you go at the right time, you might even be able to go mudflat hiking. A unique experience that, as a Dutchman, you must have experienced once in your life. Going with a large group? Then there are other great locations in the Netherlands.
National Park Lauwersmeer
50 years ago the Lauwerszee, near the Wadden area, was closed off and since then nature has been given free reign there, resulting in one of the most beautiful nature reserves in our country. You can enjoy hiking and biking there and possibly combine your visit with a day in the Wadden area. National Park Lauwersmeer is the hotspot for bird watchers, because many beautiful and rare birds nest here. In addition, with a little luck you may also run into a herd of wild horses.
The Loonse and Drunense Dunes
Although North Brabant is not by the sea, it has a beautiful dune area, which has been declared a national park for good reason. On the Loonse and Drunense Dunes, you can enjoy hiking across vast expanses of sand. It is actually a kind of heathland with little vegetation. You imagine yourself a bit on the beach, but there is no sea. The Loons en Drunense Duinen are also a wonderful place to walk your dogs or to go with children. Be sure to bring a blanket and a basket of goodies, because it is the ideal place for a delicious picnic.
The Utrecht Ridge
The province of Utrecht also has beautiful nature. Nationaal Park de Utrechtse Heuvelrug is especially a fantastic getaway because it is so incredibly diverse. One moment you walk through forestation, the next you come to a beautiful little pond and a little later you find yourself on a vast heath. You will also encounter some culture on the Utrecht Hill Ridge. In fact, in the forests you will find beautiful old castles, estates and the Pyramid of Austerlitz, the highest pyramid in Europe, which you may climb yourself. Because it is fairly central, the Utrecht Hill Ridge is a good choice for a day out for everyone.
