The nicest city beaches in the Netherlands

You really don’t have to live on the coast to go to the beach. In fact, there are quite a few urban beaches in our country. We have collected the nicest ones for you in a blog. Keep that summer coming!
Meadow at the Deventer City Beach
When we visited Deventer we were invited to Meadow for lunch. What was very unfortunate was that when we were there the rain was pouring down. Nevertheless, the city beach was pleasantly crowded and fortunately there were plenty of dry spots to be found. The food was delicious, and the owner asked us to stop by again the next day when the weather was better. The next day the sun was shining brightly and we were again pampered at Meadow, this time with a delicious cup of coffee. So cozy, so welcoming … you really must have been here once! Meadow opens again on April 1, so then it’s back to enjoyment. And from the city beach you have a beautiful view of the city of Deventer.
The Beach on the New Meadow
In Vlaardingen you will find a city beach where it is great to hang out. The Strand aan de Nieuwe Maas is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays when it is dry. And in the summer vacations, the city beach is also open on other days when the weather is nice. Admission is always free unless an event is being held. So do keep an eye on the website. Ship watching, relaxing, eating, drinking, listening to music and much more.
Strand Oog in Al (SOIA) in Utrecht
On the kanaalweg in Utrecht, you will find city beach Strand Oog in Al (SOIA). Once you get to that place, you don’t want to leave. Wonderful by the water, food and drinks within reach and there is plenty to see on the canal. There is a playground for the kids, so you can really spend hours there. Also for drinks and larger groups. Then you have to make reservations in advance.
City beach DOT in Groningen
City beach DOT in Groningen is one of the few city beaches where you can actually swim. It is easily recognized by the unusual round building next to it. This, by the way, houses a movie theater (well, actually this is the only fulldome 3D dome theater in the Netherlands) and a gastrobar. DJs also often perform there. But it’s also lovely on the field.
Stadsstrand De Kade in Alkmaar
In the center of Alkmaar you will find city beach De Kade. There is even a real sandy beach! You wouldn’t expect that so close to the historic part of town. If you think you can only enjoy it during the summer you are wrong! Because in the fall, De Kade is transformed into a winter lodge. What a gem!
Stadsoever GOUDasfalt in Gouda
Do you like a bit of urban and industrial? Then Stadsoever GOUDasfalt might be the place for you! This fine urban beach is located next to a former asphalt factory. Among other things, you will find all socially responsible businesses on the site, as well as a lovely city beach. There is a lot of sand and many lying and sitting options.
City beach IJburg in Amsterdam
Amsterdam also has its own city beach. At Stadsstrand IJburg in East Amsterdam, there really is a lot to do. You can play volleyball, skate, soccer and even learn to supper and surf! So at this city beach you really don’t have to be bored. There is also lots to do for young people. And for the inner man there are food trucks where you can get delicious food and drinks!
Pavilion a/d Plas, beach near Amsterdam
In Ouderkerk aan de Amstel you will find Beach Pavilion a/d Plas all year round. Here you can eat well and chill out after a nice walk in the surrounding nature. When the weather is nice you can enjoy on a beach bed or on the terrace or if you want to give a party you have come to the right place. a/d PLAS is open daily from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am and parking is free.
