The tea sommelier

We all know what a sommelier is. You often come across these people at the somewhat better restaurants. A wine sommelier knows everything about wines and can combine them perfectly with certain dishes. But did you know that this also works the same way with tea? Someone who knows everything about tea is a tea sommelier. We have found some who can take your love for tea to an even higher level!
The art of tea
In some, mostly Asian countries, brewing tea is a true art. Making tea really is an event, not something you do in between. But tasting tea is also a very serious matter. We in the Netherlands could learn a thing or two from that! Fortunately, more and more real tea connoisseurs can be found here who would like to pass on their craft to you. A tea sommelier can even tell you which food goes best with which tea!
Santhee
Karin Kamman of Santhee is a certified tea sommelier. On her website you will find a lot of information on the subject but of course it is much more fun to get started yourself. For example, Karin gives trainings, workshops and tastings. Besides several blogs, you can also find tips on her website for making the best cup of tea.
Mariëlla Erkens
Tea sommelier Mariëlla Er kens even became champion in her profession in 2013/2014! She knows like no other which tea goes with which dish. Since recently (or actually since the first Corona outbreak) she also has an online course that you can take in the comfort of your own home. She also teaches a three-day tea course and has written a book on the subject.
Be Your Tea
Tea sommelier Jozefien of Be Your Tea actually visits tea farmers and producers of tea in the countries where it comes from. She selects teas, tastes and names certain teas, suggests teas with dishes, explains the tea and recommends the right materials to extract the beautiful flavors from the tea.
Want to get started yourself?
Do you have the ambition to work as a tea sommelier yourself? You can! There are several courses that can make you a certified tea sommelier. For example, you can take a course at the Itcacademy, through the SVH or the ROC. There are also some home courses you can take that allow you to organize your own time.
