The Christmas vacations are a time of coziness, warmth and togetherness. As fun as it all is, for many parents it is often also quite a challenge to make sure the children are well entertained. After all, the children have two weeks of vacation, which means they are cozy at home. In order to get through these days, it is a good idea to plan together so that you are never bored. So if you have children between the ages of 5 and 12 and could use some tips and ideas to make sure that no one gets bored, then this is the place to be!

Amusement park

Wondering what to do with kids? Then of course a day at an amusement park is a great idea. Especially around the holidays, most parks are completely in the Christmas spirit, especially the Efteling. How cool is it to drive to Kaatsheuvel with the kids because the whole day is spent in the magical world of pardoes? The only thing you have to take into account is that it can be quite busy during the vacations. So if you would like to go in the Danse Macabre, make sure you get to the park early, because since its opening the average waiting time is about 3 to 4 hours.

Zoo

The zoo is a great place to go during the Christmas vacations. Many zoos organize special winter activities and events that are incredibly fun for both children and adults. These include a scavenger hunt in the park and many other fun things. It’s handy to check the website in advance so you know exactly what’s going on at the zoo you want to visit. The nice thing about the zoo is that it is for all ages. So even when the children are a little younger you can just take them with you in the stroller or wagon and they don’t have to walk a long way by themselves.

Christmas markets

Whereas Christmas markets used to seem mainly a German thing, in recent years they have become increasingly popular in the Netherlands as well. Our own towns and villages are transformed into atmospheric winter landscapes during the December months, where the smell of mulled wine and baked apples fills the air. From small, cozy markets to large-scale events, there is something for everyone. The only thing to keep in mind is that it can be quite crowded. So whether it’s entirely convenient with young children is up to you to decide.

Crafts with the kids

What could be more fun than doing crafts with the kids on a cold rainy day. We understand that it is not an option to go out every day. Although you can take the kids to a park, it is also nice to just stay at home.
