Wine food walk in Delft

On Sunday, November 4, I participated in the Wine Food Walk in Delft. Together with three girlfriends we got on our bikes full of expectations. It certainly did not disappoint!
Register early
Every Wednesday afternoon we sit together waiting for the children to finish judo. We then enjoy a cup of tea and especially have a lot of fun. We also thought we should do something sporty ourselves. From that came the idea to form a walking club, because walking is very hip and also very good for you. Since the main topic on our walks is “food” (the four of us are rather gourmet), we decided to join the Wine and Food Walk. We were all very curious about the concept. Because the concept is very popular, we signed up months ago for the Wine Food Walk in Delft.
Fixed route
A week in advance we were told at which restaurants we were expected. You walk a certain route together with more people. Each group has its own route so you don’t have to wait anywhere for a table. With an app on your phone, the restaurant knows what you came for and you can leave when you are ready. Funny enough, we sometimes ran into the same groups, but it was never really crowded. Even though there were as many as 300 people walking along!
Six restaurants
The restaurants participating in the Wine Food were sometimes a stone’s throw from each other and sometimes a little further away, but it was perfectly manageable. The Wine Gourmet begins at noon and lasts until 6 p.m.. At the last restaurant, you do have to make sure you are in by 5:00 pm. At each restaurant, you get a specially selected wine and their signature dish.
Restaurant Moodz
We started at Moodz restaurant on Vesteplein. Moodz participated in 2009 in the program “Mijn tent is top” with Herman den Blijker. Because the weather was beautiful and we were so hot from cycling, we took a seat on the bench in the sun. Really delicious! We started with a white wine that was neither too sweet nor too sour. It went down very well and matched perfectly with the dish we were served. The dish was a green curry with chicken. The curry was wonderfully mild. It was really a great start! Book at Moodz
Seven Hills
To the second restaurant we could almost roll, because Seven Hills is right across the street from Moodz. We could already see some more groups arriving, but there was a great spot reserved for us. The nice thing was that there were also just people around us having high tea. We were explained the wine, a red this time from Spain. This wine was not heavy at all and went very well with the dish Seven Hills had thought up for us. It was a deer carpaccio with a deer meat croquette. We really got the feeling that the restaurants really enjoy participating in the Wine Experience. Very nice! Make a reservation at Sevenhills
Restaurant Rossio
The third restaurant on the list was the Italian restaurant Rossio. None of us had ever been here, so that was nice too. We were also given a jug of water there, something that made us very happy. The wine was a rosé from Portugal and it was a great match for the dish. That consisted of grilled zucchini with a bell pepper sauce and ricotta and a crouton. The restaurant is on Oude Delft and is located in a former butcher shop. You can see those elements reflected in the interior. Very tasty!
Café Einstein
Our next stop was Café Einstein on the Spoorsingel. The restaurant is located in a beautiful old building with high ceilings. Much has remained in the old state, giving it a luxurious feel. Out back, they also have a cozy terrace where you can sit in the spring and summer. You wouldn’t say so given the name, but it is an Italian restaurant. Don’t expect a traditional Italian, but a special one. We got a Chardonnay there that paired perfectly with the pikeperch fillet grilled on the skin. It was accompanied by a leek tartlet and anise champions. The combination was top notch! We will definitely return here.
Grand café de Sjees
Grandcafé de Sjees is located on the Market Square and thus nicely in the center. We got a place upstairs in the restaurant and the red wine was explained to us. This one was already a bit fuller than the previous wines, but the four was in the clock by now, so that was fine. The red wine was accompanied by a wrap with crispy fried pork, guacamole and homemade pineapple chutney. It tasted great together! Make a reservation at De Sjees
Restaurant de Waag
We could also roll again to Restaurant De Waag, because it is located next to the Sjees. Here too we got a place upstairs. We got a full, round red wine and that matched well with the dish. That was a grilled pork belly sandwich. The sandwich tasted very good, although I would never normally order a pork belly sandwich. Since the Waag was our last destination, they poured another wine and they left the bottle on the table. Was very successful. Make a reservation at Stadscafé De Waag
Another dessert
As a counterpoint to all the wine, we all craved something sweet. So off we went in search of dessert! Nearby we found a very sweet little bakery called Ten to Three Bakery. Inside it is a pink paradise where every girl feels at home. Because they also give high teas, you can sit there wonderfully. It had been a busy day, so there were not many cupcakes left. But what was left was really delicious. What a super ending to this fun day! We were even able to bike straight home!
