Although the Netherlands obviously cannot match the Alps and Dolemites, you can very well experience winter sports fun in our flat little country. We have surprisingly many opportunities for winter sports, both indoor and outdoor. In this blog we will tell you more about the possibilities for winter sports in the Netherlands.

Ski slopes in the Netherlands

That we have several ski slopes in the Netherlands is, of course, not unknown. But did you know that we have many more than you would probably think? For example, Snowworld has several locations: Amsterdam, Zoetermeer, Landgraaf, Rucphen-Breda, and Terneuzen. At the Uithof you can also go to experience a wonderful day in the snow. Besides these indoor snow halls, the Netherlands is also known for its brush tracks, which are ideal for beginners, or for those who just want to practice. Brushcourses we have for example in Bergen, Huizen, Hoofddorp, and Nieuwegein. But there are many more! If you are looking for a Brushcourt in your area you can always take a look at wintersport.nl, they have an overview of all brushcourses in the Netherlands. Besides snow halls and brush tracks we also have indoor roller rinks. An indoor roller rink is a kind of conveyor belt that is set up at an angle. The surface is a carpet specially designed for skiing and snowboarding. The indoor roller rink is suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers and ideal for working on your technique.

Skiing in the Netherlands

You can’t start skiing or snowboarding early enough. But it’s also never too late! Many ski schools start lessons for children as young as 4-5 years old. Children at this age often have a natural curiosity and are flexible enough to pick up the basics quickly. Many adults also start skiing or snowboarding later in life, the important thing is to feel comfortable, and open to learning. Ski lessons in the Netherlands have several advantages. Indoor ski halls offer a controlled and safe environment to learn, with gentle slopes and professional Dutch-speaking instructors. Also, by taking lessons in the Netherlands, you will be well prepared when you go on your winter sports vacation. This allows you to optimally enjoy your vacation in the real snow.

Skiing in Holland as an advanced skier

It is not only important for children to learn to ski, but also if you have been going on a ski vacation for years. After all, if you have been skiing or snowboarding for years, you can continue to improve your technique. The better your technique is, the lower the risk of injuries or accidents and the more confident you will be on your skis in the mountains. Improving your technique is not always possible at the regular ski schools in your ski resort. They often teach in groups up to a limited level. It is better to take private lessons. Or to take lessons on an indoor roller conveyor. Because you are not distracted by height, depth or snow conditions, you and the teacher can focus entirely on your technique. Also, there is often a mirror in front of you in which you can see yourself, so you can immediately see what the teacher means with certain instructions. You also get a better sense of what you are doing wrong, and how it should feel. These ski schools can be found for example in Heemskerk and Dordrecht but the roller rinks are spread throughout the Netherlands, to find one near you you can take a look at wintersport.nl where all roller rinks in the Netherlands are listed.

Nice ski slopes for a day out

Want to make skiing or snowboarding a fun outing? Several ski resorts around the country regularly organize fun activities themselves, but also offer you customized activities. For example, at Snowworld, Alpine Sports, and Outdoor Valley, you can have a kids’ party in the snow!

The locations of Snowworld also have several halls where you can organize your own event. A party or business meeting for example. In addition, all these locations have atmospheric and spacious restaurants, where you can not only have a bite to eat together, but also join large groups. During holidays such as Easter and Christmas, or Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day, cozy brunches or fondue evenings are regularly organized.

At the Uithof, besides skiing, you can also skate, climb, nerf, go-karting and laser gaming. At Snowworld in Landgraaf you will find, besides the snow hall, a real climbing park and toboggan run. They also have a hotel, so you can combine skiing, climbing and tobogganing with a nice weekend in Limburg.

So there is plenty to do!
