Action, teamwork, and lots of fun at Fun Village

Sometimes you have those outings where you already think beforehand: “This is going to be fun.” But in the end, it turns out to be even more fun than expected. That’s exactly what happened to us at Fun Village in Rotterdam. The five of us got to visit for an afternoon full of action, challenges, and—above all—lots of laughter. And believe us, it certainly was! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was great. We were greeted with a drink, and then it was time for the first activity of the afternoon: Prison Island.

Taking on the Challenge Together at Prison Island

Prison Island is definitely not your typical escape room. That’s because you don’t play just one room, but an entire cell complex with no fewer than 34 different cells. Each cell presents a different challenge. Sometimes you have to solve puzzles; other times, it’s all about speed, strategy, or physical agility. The fun part is that you get to choose which cells to tackle—and you can retry a cell if you think there are more points to be earned. That immediately sparked some healthy competition among us.

And teamwork? That’s absolutely essential here.

Fortunately, our talents were well-balanced. Pauline and Annemarie threw themselves enthusiastically into the puzzles, Michelle was our climbing expert, and Sonja and Ester did exactly what was asked of them. That’s a talent in itself, of course. One moment we were doubled over with laughter because someone just missed completing a challenge in time. The next moment, we were frantically devising a strategy to snag those extra points after all. Before we knew it, the hour was already over.

Prison Golf with a Surprising Twist

After Prison Island, we moved on to Prison Golf—a mini-golf course with a full-on prison theme. But this, too, turned out to be just a little different from regular mini-golf. Of course, you try to get the ball into the hole in as few strokes as possible, but if you finish on time, you get to keep playing with extra challenges to lower your score even further. That led to more hilarious moments and some serious competition. Because as soon as someone posted a good score, the rest of us naturally wanted to beat it right away.

Axe throwing turns out to be surprisingly addictive

The coolest activity of the afternoon? Without a doubt, Real Axe Throwing. After a brief explanation, we got to try our hand at two different courses. Thanks to the interactive boards, you can choose from all kinds of game modes, but we found the traditional dartboard challenging enough.

Our first attempts were still a bit awkward. After all, how do you actually throw an axe properly? But everyone quickly got the hang of it. It also turned out that one lane was just a bit more forgiving than the other. Ester unexpectedly turned out to be the group’s hidden talent and quickly got the hang of the right technique. That immediately sparked Annemarie’s competitive spirit—she certainly didn’t want to be outdone.

While we were axe throwing, we enjoyed tasty drinks and a generous platter of snacks. And that was no luxury at all after all that activity.

An outing you’ll want to repeat

What made this afternoon at Fun Village so much fun was precisely the variety of activities. From solving puzzles and working together to fiercely competing and just laughing a whole lot. And honestly? We didn’t even get to play all the rooms at Prison Island. That’s exactly why this is an outing you’ll want to come back to again and again. Every time, you can take on different challenges and discover new games.
