The nicest delicatessen store can be found in Utrecht

The other day I faced a challenge. We had received an invitation from friends to celebrate their 12.5 years of marriage. We were allowed to join them for dinner at a lovely restaurant, The Red Sun in Blaricum. Just great fun and entertaining you might say. But the big question soon arose. What kind of gift do you bring to such an occasion?

Special gift

We did not want to arrive with a standard bottle of wine or bouquet of flowers, and we find an envelope with money even more boring. Besides, with special people and a special occasion comes a special gift. Our first idea was to send them for a luxurious lunch at a nice restaurant. But we didn’t think a voucher was very special either.

And then I thought of it: a nice basket with all different appetizers from a good deli! Then they can snuggle up together romantically on the couch at the weekend and then enjoy delicious appetizers over a nice drink.

So, so the idea was there. Now to find the perfect deli. Our friends themselves are from the Utrecht area, so I thought it would be nice to buy something from there as well.

So during our ‘Op stap in Utrecht day’ I set myself the goal to find the best delicatessen store in Utrecht and have them put together a nice drink package.

And after a tour of the Utrecht city center, we found it: Bigoli in the Schoutenstraat. This delicatessen store offers products from the Mediterranean region.

From Spanish and Italian cheeses and sausages, wines, oils and vinegars, pastas, breads and fresh vegetables and herbs. You can also enjoy lunch with sandwiches made on site. Delicious hams, grilled vegetables, salads and different types of fish. You can pick up the sandwiches or eat them on the spot at one of the tables at the front of the store or on the small, cozy terrace.

Luckily we were inside before the lunch rush and were given all the time we needed to put together a nice gift with one of the employees. It became a tomato box filled with delicious sausage, hard cheese, breadsticks, limoncello, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Italian meringues, tomato and truffle tapenades and much more. Of course we also immediately tested the freshly made sandwiches and can say with certainty that Bigoli in Utrecht is an absolute must in all areas!
