Our favorite locations are also sustainable!

We have already written several blogs with the theme of “sustainability.” This is, especially lately, becoming very important. We can all do our part in this. But what are our favorite locations actually doing to become sustainable? You can read about it in this blog!
Korzo Theatre
Finally!!! Korzo Theater in The Hague may reopen after weeks of closure due to Corona. But this period has made the theater think. Many artists who performed for Corona in Korzo Theater came from abroad. These were mostly young, talented dancers and choreographers. Conversely, many Dutch artists went abroad, simply because there is more to be earned there. “To put it simply, this is mainly due to the subsidies given in the Netherlands in the cultural sector,” said general director Gemma Jelier. “Enough money is made available for the creation of performances, but less subsidy is given, for example, for the purchase of performances, i.e. the costs for the stages. This is the case abroad. That is why there is less money left over here and abroad is often more interesting.”
Flying artists back and forth is, of course, very taxing on the environment and the climate. That’s why Korzo is working on giving the stage more to Dutch talent and investing in digital possibilities so that foreign artists can still reach Dutch audiences via a live stream. But for that, the existing Dutch system will have to undergo a major overhaul! In addition, Korzo Theater has replaced all lighting in the halls and public spaces with LED lighting, and the taps in the toilets have been made automatic so that less water is wasted. Good job Korzo!
Blitz Wellness
Blitz Wellness is also very sustainable, in fact, in 2011 they were voted the most sustainable wellness center in the Netherlands! Blitz Wellness’ heat pump systems provide floor heating in the winter and floor cooling in the summer. The wellness center has LED lighting throughout the building to ensure energy efficiency.
So at Blitz Wellness you can let yourself be completely “green”!
Restaurants Weerribben-Wieden
Wilco Verschuren, owner of no less than three restaurants on vacation parks in the Weerribben Wieden, is doing so well in the field of sustainability that we wrote a separate blog about it. Among other things, a perception garden will soon be built at Restaurant ‘t Binnenhof in Paasloo. This will be built entirely of recycled materials and the presence of butterfly gardens and a bee garden, among other things, will ensure bio-diversity. In addition, Eetcafé Giethoorn has received all new, sustainable kitchen equipment. Read about what else the restaurants are doing about sustainability in this blog.
Roundhill
Roundhill Indoor Ski & Snowboard in Dordrecht is doing a good job of separating waste. In the future, they want to do that even more. In addition, the ski instructors wear Picture clothing as much as possible. This is completely recycled and made of very fine materials. They also sell these clothes in their store.
The Lemon Spirit
We know Lianne and Mart from Restaurant Hudson Voorschoten. But they also started a new adventure together. Together they set up The Lemon Spirit from which they make the most delicious homemade limoncello. The Lemon Spirit makes the limoncello completely sustainable and they are proud of it! Only organic lemons are used for production and the limoncello is made entirely by hand. The seals for the bottles are completely biodegradable. From the used lemons juices are made at the greengrocer. So very sustainable!
