Cycling and hiking in North Brabant

North Brabant has no less than 4 National Parks to explore on foot and by bike! Because it is relatively flat, you don’t have to pedal as hard. Ideal for cycling and walking. But of course, North Brabant also has cozy cities where you can combine your activity with a nice bite to eat and a drink.

North Brabant has a lot to offer the hiker. A varied nature, special locations and nice cities.
Hiking near Breda
The Mastbos near Breda is highly recommended for people who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city but still don’t want to be too far from city life. Here you walk among the ancient trees, get a piece of history and get to see unique animals such as the kingfisher butterfly and the heidelibelle. Hike the 7 km foresters trail, for example. The Snuffelroute Mastbos is a 4 km walk especially for dogs and their owners. As a bonus, there is also a nice dog pool where your faithful four-legged friend can have a nice swim. Walking in the Barony is also really lovely. The hiking trail Alphense Bergen near Chaam is also a nice route of 5.5 km.
Hiking in the Biesbosch
The swampy area of the Biesbosch A nice 10 km walk in the Biesbosch is this walk near Werkendam. The walking route of Het Rondje Biesbosch of just under 10 km is also fun to do. It is also fun to explore the Biesbosch with children. After a short walk with the kids, it is especially fun to do a Beaver tour by boat! There is a lot to do for children in the Biesbosch anyway. Hiking at the Loonse and Drunense Dunes
Also called the Brabant Sahara, the area of the Loonse and Drunense Dunes is the largest living shifting sand area in Western Europe. A nice walk there is the 11 km hike found here. Another nice route of 13 km is the one from the ANWB. This route takes you in and around Giesbergen and is very varied. A shorter walking route (of 4.5 km) is the Historic Plantloon Walking Route. Another nice walking route of 5.5 km is the Wandelroute Roestelberg.
Cycling in North Brabant
Cycling is also great to do in North Brabant. As mentioned earlier, North Brabant is relatively flat, so you needn’t be afraid of up and down hills. A great route to explore North Brabant is the 30 km Beemdenroute. A 46 km route that goes through the beautiful moorland of Brabant is the Someren-Heideroute. This is especially beautiful at the end of the summer (August/September) because then the heather is in full bloom!
Cycling through small towns
Do you love culture and history? Then the 79 km route in the Bommelerwaard is great fun. You will pass through several fortified towns and several castles. Can’t get enough of beautiful castles? Then the Kastelenroute Woudrichem is for you! With its 34 km not the longest route, so you have enough time to see everything. Another fun route of 49 km is the Rondje Drunen. Here nature and urban areas alternate with each other.
Cycling through beautiful nature
A nice cycling route right through National Park De Biesbosch is this route of almost 27 km. Really a route not to be skipped is the 39 km long cycling route through the Loonse and Drunense Dunes. We saw earlier that there is a lot of nature around Breda. There is a nice bike route there too, namely the bike route through the Barony of Breda. The Oud Buisse Heide cycling route is only 27 km long but really worthwhile. It takes you through forests, heaths and fields.
