Haunted houses: Plas Teg, Wales

Due to the measures surrounding the coronavirus, there are almost to no outings to visit in the coming time. But we do want to make you happy with our blogs. Before joining OpstapmetLisa, I had a blog about creepy places around the world. I especially love the history behind certain houses and stories! Because our blog about real haunted houses in the Netherlands was read a lot by you, we are now making a series about haunted houses in the world. Because there is a lot of haunting going on all over the world….

House with a strange name

In the north of Wales, in the town of Flintshire, you will find a beautiful house with a strange name: Plas Teg. It was built in 1610 by Sir Trevor I. Many Trevors lived in the house, but unfortunately not all of them were happy there. After the last Trevor left the house, the house fell into disrepair. During World War II, it was used as a military camp for a while and later served as a storage shed for an auctioneer. But no one did anything about maintenance, until the house was bought in 1986 by a woman who completely refurbished it herself. This Cornelia Bayley is still the owner of the house and she gives guided tours. Also at night.

Many ghosts

At least 15 active ghosts can be found in Plas Teg. This makes it one of the largest haunted houses in England. Although the ghosts are not violent, they can pose dangers. Like the ghost of 16-year-old Dorothy, who wanted to marry a simple farmer’s son. Of course, her parents were opposed to this, and Dorothy decided to run away with her lover and marry secretly. She buried all her jewelry by the well in the garden so they would have some money for their plans. The night before leaving, Dorothy wanted to dig up her jewelry, but she staggered and fell into the well. She drowned. It took ages before it was discovered what had happened. Her fiancé thought she had abandoned him and committed suicide. Since then, the two lovers have been looking for each other, including on the A541 which is opposite the house. Some drivers suddenly have to swerve for a woman standing in the middle of the road. But when they get out, there is no one in sight.

Elizabeth Trevor

Dorothy was not the only 16-year-old with love problems, so was Elizabeth Trevor. This young girl was literally being fought over. When the boy she was in love with lost the duel, she too threw herself into the pit. Visitors to the house see a young woman running through the house with a man at her heels. The man has a gaping wound on his arm.

Other ghosts in Pee Teg

Besides the above ghosts, there are several more to be seen. There is the Grey Lady, an elderly woman who haunts the house, the ghost of a small child is seen, and people hear giggling, screaming and crying. People are also grabbed, hugged, prodded and scratched. According to ghost hunters, Plas Teg is a very special place to visit. You can even spend the night there to experience for yourself if the stories are all true. But would you dare?
