Prepare your hair, skin and face for summer

Summer vacation is upon us! And while you are enjoying a wonderful summer, it is important to also think about protection. The first thing that comes to mind is applying sunscreen with a high UV factor. But it is almost as important to also protect your hair from the sun. We asked the hair experts at Quinto hairdressers and beauticians at Blitz Wellness to advise us on this.
Protect your hair from the sun
We all know that protecting your skin from the sun is very important. But what about your hair? Because too much sun without protection can also ruin your ‘tout la coup.
Sun Protection
Summer is when you’re outside a lot and your hair is exposed to the sun. Still, there are some things you can do to minimize your hair’s exposure:
- Wear a hat or scarf.
- Opt for a hairstyle that is not too tight. This will prevent hair breakage.
- Avoid hot tools such as a blow dryer or straightener. Your hair already gets enough heat.
- Condition your hair with an oil that contains argon, vitamin E and antioxidants. This will make your hair less dry.
- Use hair products that protect your hair from the sun.
Hair products for summer
In summer, it is important to use the right hair products. There are shampoos, masks and sprays that contain UV filters. These protect your hair from UV radiation. Artego’s Sunrise products are a good example. The products protect your hair from drying out, but also prevent color loss.
The Sun protection oil is a protective elixir that should be used to protect hair from the sun. The Nourishing hair & Body shampoo can be used to cleanse your hair and body. The No rinse restoring fluid is a wonderful conditioner to nourish and restore your hair. To refresh your hair color we have Mila Nila Colour Refresh. This is a master with color. The color lasts 4 to 10 washes and disappears on its own.
Of course, you need to look carefully at which products are best for your hair type. Want to know which products are best for your hair? The hairdressers of Quinto kappers will gladly advise you.

Protect your skin from the sun
Proper sun protection also involves preparing your skin properly. Let your skin get used to the sun slowly. This will prevent the skin from burning. But it is also a lifelong investment. After all, skin that is badly burned once remains extra sensitive to the sun for life.
Sunscreen products are made specifically to prevent sunburn. They contain UV filters, so less UV radiation reaches the skin. However, one product that filters all UV radiation does not exist. Each skin type requires a different UV filter. Get expert advice for the right sunscreen. Even sunscreens that are highly effective and protect against both UV-A(Aging) radiation and UV-B(Burning) radiation cannot provide complete protection.
Another – natural – protection mechanism is the formation of melanin under the influence of the sun. Melanin is the pigment that gives the skin color. By getting a tan, the skin protects itself, so to speak. It is a myth that you do not tan with a factor. You also tan with a factor, even more beautifully.
The protection factor of a sunscreen is indicated by SPF (Sun Protection Factor). The SPF must be chosen carefully and depends on your skin type. In addition to the SPF factor, good sunscreens also show the designation PA . Wherein the designation with four pluses offers the best protection.
Skin types and SPF
- Skin type I: very light skin (the redhead). People with this skin type tan very little or not at all and burn very quickly. Recommended SPF 30-50.
- Skin type II: light skin. Someone with this skin type will burn quickly and tan only slowly. Recommended SPF 30.
- Skin type III: lightly toned skin. These people do not burn as quickly and tan easily. Recommended SPF 20-15.
- Skin type IV: tinted skin. Someone with this skin type tans quickly and almost never burns. Recommended SPF 15.
Ten golden rules for tanning
In 1995, leading Dutch skin specialists and scientists together with the tanning industry, the Dutch Cancer Society/KWF and many other experts created ten guidelines:
- Enjoy the sun, but think about your skin.
- Let your skin get used to the sun gently and avoid sunburn.
- Between noon and 4 p.m., seek shade.
- In full sun, preferably wear a cap or sun hat and clothing. Always wear sunglasses, protect your eyes!
- What vacation destination are you going to? In the tropics the sun power is stronger than ours, adjust your factor accordingly.
- Going out on the water? The reflection of the sun on the water can cause you to burn faster, adjust your factor accordingly.
- Apply your cream again and again, due to water, swimming, perspiration etc you will lose the product on your skin.
- Don’t forget to protect your lip skin.
- Sunscreen cannot be stored, buy a new bottle every summer.

Make it easy on yourself with permanent makeup
Especially during a sun vacation, we want to look appetizing. Unfortunately, in practice it is often the case that our beautifully applied makeup melts off our face due to the heat. Or even worse, because of the sweat on your face you do not even get your makeup applied. Permanent makeup offers a solution to this problem!
Have your eyebrows put on with hairstrokes or a soft ombre and have a beautiful eyeliner placed on your eyelid. This gives you an expressive and radiant face as soon as you wake up in the morning and you no longer have to fiddle with your makeup bag.
Of course, it is important to have this makeup done by a specialist. After all, this is something permanent so it has to be done right. PMU Salon in The Hague is a permanent make-up salon with qualified specialists. They take the time for you and advise you which form of permanent makeup best suits you. Want to know more about permanent makeup? Then contact Janneke Nijman of PMU Salon.
