Quiz Boxing

Sometimes you really have no idea in advance what to expect. Quiz Boxing is such an outing. Together with three friends, guest blogger Elsa went out to try it out. They combined it with a terrace and some shopping in Den Bosch and that turned out to be the perfect mix for a super fun afternoon. Read here how she experienced it.

Boxing Quiz

Upon entering, we received an enthusiastic explanation of how the game worked and how the rounds would go. You step into an arena and engage in a quiz battle with your friends, colleagues or family. In advance you can make a division of the different categories. You don’t work with a fixed number of questions, but with percentages per category. This way you can indicate which topics you want to come back more or less often. Ideal, for example, if you are with a group in which only one person knows something about sports; then you simply set the percentage lower.

The categories are pretty diverse: cartoons, social topics, movies and series, sports, music, video games and finally history and geography. Without too much discussion, we quickly had a division that everyone was comfortable with and we were ready to enter the gaming arena.

Game Show Feeling

Each arena has six desks, allowing you to play alone or form teams of two. On your desk you have a screen where you get the questions and two big red push buttons to answer the questions. The arena is reserved entirely for your own group. The door closes, there is no attendant and you play for 60 minutes alone with your own party.

It feels a bit like participating in a television game show. We were introduced one by one with rousing boxing music, lighting effects and even smoke. Tentatively, the group loosened up a bit. This is anything but groggy answering some questions or your average pub quiz.

Varied rounds that don’t get boring

The questions are always asked in a different way. This keeps the pace high and never gets boring. Think of lightning rounds where you have to react super fast, music rounds, true or false questions and other surprising game forms. It is precisely this variety that keeps everyone fully engaged.

We started with an entrance round in which the questions were still quite easy. For a moment we thought it would be something more for children… But we could soon let go of that idea, because the level became more and more challenging and we really had to work at it.

Jokers, tactics and fanaticism

Also fun: you get a number of jokers. With these you can take points from someone else or hitch a ride on an opponent’s answer. This provides an extra tactical element. You have to judge who really knows a lot about something and who is just guessing. This made us surprisingly fanatical and provided fun moments and quite frankly … occasionally a little bit of frustration.

The conclusion

Quizboxing is surprising, energetic and therefore great fun to do with friends. The game show feel, the varied rounds and the possibility to adapt the game to the interests of the group make this a successful outing. Combined with a terrace and some shopping, we had a top afternoon.

Definitely recommended if you fancy something different from a pub quiz or escape room.
