It has since been announced that from April 28 there will be a little more easing in the current Corona measures. Unfortunately, this is only aimed at children and sports clubs, hairdressers and the hospitality industry will remain closed at least until May 12. A big disappointment for all Dutch entrepreneurs eager to get back to work.

To keep their heads above water, many entrepreneurs have set up initiatives to offer their services in a different way. And a lot of people appreciate this and support these entrepreneurs wherever they can. This can be seen on social media with the tag #SupportYourLocal.

We have also taken advantage of these alternatives in several ways, such as the home delivery service of several fine dining restaurants. Since the closure of the restaurant industry will continue for a while, we would like to tell you how this way of eating out at home works and how we enjoyed it!

Delicious oysters and lobster from Les Copains

One of the first restaurants to switch from restaurant to home dining is Les Copains. And since we were already fans of this fantastic seafood restaurant in Delft, we couldn’t resist ordering their delicious dishes. We took oysters upfront and as a main course a delicious lobster with Spanish peppers. Since this was new not only for the restaurant but also for us, I was very curious about what to expect.

At about the appointed time, hostess Debbie arrived at our driveway with several hefty trays full of goodies. The oysters were beautifully wrapped on ice and the lobster lay ready on aluminum trays that could go straight into the oven to heat up. Also included with the lobster was a generous portion of spaghetti for both of us that also only needed to be reheated. So while we sat enjoying the oysters and a baguette, the lobster was in the oven for a few minutes and then we could enjoy this deliciousness.

Feasting on a wonderful menu from Restaurant Elea

Restaurant Elea in Rijswijk is another fine dining restaurant that we have always loved coming to. So when Takis and Bibi let us know that they had also set up their home service, we were eager to try this too. Elea offers a new menu every week, so you choose something completely different every week.

This week we chose a delicious salad of salmon with bulgur as a starter, a veal stew as a main course and a cheese plate after. These dishes were also neatly delivered at the appointed time. Everything was well packed in different containers with a clear explanation of how some dishes still need to be heated and which sauces go with which dishes. Again, we enjoyed this very much.

A four-course menu of Le Barquichon

We were starting to pick up a bit of steam and under the excuse of #SupportYourLocal, we gladly sacrificed ourselves to enjoy a delicious Saturday night home menu. This week we chose the four-course menu from Le Barquichon of Voorburg.

This time we chose several dishes, so there was a lot on the table. A bisque, carpaccio wrap, salmon, sukade with hot lightning and a cheese plate to top it off. The bisque came in a sealed bag and all the other dishes in sturdy take away trays from which we could easily heat and serve everything. And everything tasted great this evening as well.

Down to the tableware arranged dinner from Savarin

Our latest fine dining for home experience was from Restaurant Savarin from Rijswijk. I came across a post from them on Facebook that they too delivered delicious menus to your home and that too including dinnerware! And you don’t even have to wash it, because they come and pick it up dirty from you the next day. Well, an evening of fine dining and then also no dishes, you don’t have to tell me twice.

This time we opted for ceviche as a starter, Dorade as a main course, a parfait of orange in chocolate for dessert and again a cheeseboard to finish. At the appointed time, the dishes were delivered in a sizable crate. The cold dishes were delivered already fully prepared on the tableware and the Dorade was in an aluminum tray that could go straight into the oven to heat up. The tableware was also included so we could serve and eat the dishes beautifully prepared. The food was delicious and I must say that the dinner service really completed the dining out experience. Of course, I did rinse the dinnerware nicely before putting it back in the crate, which was neatly collected the next day.
