The cutest Christmas books

I love to read. Especially in the fall and winter, I like to crawl on the couch with a blanket and a book. I mostly read thrillers (and they can’t be gory enough for me) but around the holidays I make an exception. Then I prefer to read a cozy feel-good book. Preferably one of the many Christmas books you find in the stores at this time of year. So I would like to give you some tips for the nicest Christmas books!
A day in December
I love the cover alone of the book ‘A Day in December’ by Josie Silver . As the cover suggests, this is really a love story. Fans of Jojo Moyes will love this. On a cold, white December day, Laurie is on the bus. From the bus she sees a boy sitting at the bus stop and she just feels that he is the one. For Laurie, that’s pretty special because she doesn’t believe in love at first sight, but here it hits her. And then the bus moves on. With Laurie and without the boy. Of course the chances are slim that she will ever see him again, but a year later her best friend introduces her to her new boyfriend. Three guesses who that is! This book is truly a must-read for the cold winter months. Delicious!
An Unexpected Christmas
This cover looks so cozy too! Nathalie Cox wrote the book “An Unexpected Christmas. Charlie hates Christmas but this year completely! Her boyfriend has traded her in for someone else, she can’t get into her house because of a gas leak and her mother has run off to Australia with her fifth husband. So Charlie decides to spend the holidays in rural Devon, where she goes to help her niece at a doggy daycare. Once in the countryside, she meets two handsome but oh so unattainable men. One is engaged and the other is the arrogant veterinarian. Still, this Christmas is going to be very interesting. You too are bound to close the awkward Charlie’s heart. A delightful book for under the Christmas tree.
The Nutcracker
E. Hoffmann’s classic “The Nutcracker” is a true Christmas classic. The fairy tale inspired Tchaikovsky for his world-famous ballet. The story begins on Christmas Eve when Marie and her brother Fritz receive presents. Among all the presents Marie finds a nutcracker. Marie immediately falls in love with the little wooden doll. When she plays with her dolls alone late at night, she gets sideways involved in a battle between the mice and the Mouse King and the Nutcracker. Right now, The Nutcracker is also running in theaters. Don’t know the story? Then be sure to read this sweet fairy tale around the holidays!
Intended for me
Chantal van Gastel is one of Holland’s feel-good writers and a very good one at that! Her books always have a funny undertone. So is ‘Destined for Me’, in which Jessica and her best friends go away for a long weekend during the holidays. They chronically don’t see each other enough and hope to make up for lost time during this weekend. They head to the family home where Jessica and Mickey always used to spend their vacations. But when they get there it turns out that the vacation home has already been rented out to others! Her ex-boyfriend Aram is also there, and let that be the last thing Jessica was waiting for….
The art of Christmas
‘The Art of Christmas’ is a thin book by Jane Lovering. Initially this book was only going to be published as an e-book, but fortunately it was published in paperback after all. Harriet was widowed at a young age two years ago and wants to celebrate Christmas again for the first time this year. When she goes looking for the artificial Christmas tree in the attic, she suddenly finds a stack of mysterious comic books. She enlists the somewhat odd comic book dealer Kell to find the origin of the books. The stack of comic books points to a secret life her husband lived. What secret did he have? And can the accept the feelings she develops for Kell?
The Christmas Mausage
Of course, Christmas children’s books should not be missing from this list. Tom Fletcher wrote this enchanting Christmas book. Ten-year-old Willem is in a wheelchair and loves dinosaurs. Willem doesn’t have it easy, especially when a new girl comes into his class who wants to make his life miserable. Fortunately, he still has his Christmas-crazy father and his love of dinosaurs. Ideally, he would like to have a dinosaur for Christmas, but that is impossible. Or is it? This sweet, magical Christmas book will continue to captivate any child. Therefore, it should not be missing under the Christmas tree.
Christmas – Nicole de Cock
This book is truly enchanting. Everyone who looks at it will get a real Christmas feeling. And that while there is not a single letter of text in the book. Right, this book consists only of illustrations. This book focuses on the big pine tree in the forest. The first snowflakes start to fall and the forest animals think the tree should get some nice decorations. Meanwhile, all sorts of things about Christmas are passing by. The illustrations themselves tell the story and is therefore fun for young and old.
Little Man Branch
This book by Julia Donaldson has long been my son’s favorite. It’s about a branch who loses track of his branch family as he has all sorts of (unwanted) adventures. Fortunately, Little Branch eventually stumbles upon Santa Claus and helps him bring the packages around. In the end, Santa Claus returns Little Man to his family of branches as a thank-you. The entire story is written in rhyme and as an adult, I found myself laughing regularly at the ambiguous words. Once you finish this one, be sure to read The Gruffalo as well. Superbook.
Christmas – Dick Bruna
This book my mother still read to me and is still high on the Christmas book lists. Dick Bruna tells the Christmas story in the book “Christmas” especially for the little ones. In addition, Dick Bruna’s simple but oh so recognizable illustrations are great. This book is really a must-have for people with young (grand)children. In addition, it is also just timeless, so I think it will still be read aloud 50 years from now!
