Playing games together has never been more popular! The choice is also really huge! In this blog we review the most fun games to inspire you for a lot of entertaining evenings.

The best card games

A board game is great fun, but often takes quite a long time. Card games take a little less time and can be mastered quickly. Classic card games such as Bullying, Heart Chasing and Hangman are always fun, but there are many other fun card games! Uno is a great fun game where you can get in each other’s way. There is a junior version so smaller kids can join in too. Skip-Bo is highly recommended for competitive families. Set really requires you to use your brain and comes to our table with great regularity. A card game can easily be played right after dinner, just in between or before bed, which makes them ideal.

The best dice games

What is true for card games is actually also true for dice games. These don’t take too long and are easy to grasp. Yahtzee is always good, of course, but there are many other fun dice games for the whole family these days. At home, we are fans of the game Qwixx. You have to have a little luck, but you also have to be tactical. The game comes with two score pads that you can reorder, but there are many more types of score pads for this game in circulation that make the game different every time. Super fun! And very fast. Clever is a game similar to Qwixx, yet different. This game is even more tactical than Qwixx. Fun to play with slightly older children. And the game Time to Time is heavily addictive once you get the hang of it. Tip: always check out the YouTube game tutorial. Often that is much easier than the explanation from a booklet.

Smaller board games

Some games are known for being long, but there are also board games that are much shorter. A nice example is the game Smooth Ghosts. Another favorite at our house! Other relatively short games include Earthworms, Halli Galli, Pim Pam Pet and Jenga. Of the first two, by the way, there are also junior versions making them playable with younger children. Ra Ra Ra who am I is a super fun game for the whole family. Very good for young children because they have to ask the right questions to find out their identity.

Great board games

Everyone knows Monopoly and everyone knows you can spend a very long time playing it. Really such a game for a rainy Sunday. You have many variants of this game, such as a Harry Potter or Game of Thrones version. Fun for the fans! Another recommended game is Life’s Way. That one is a lot shorter. Nice thing about it is that the newer version no longer has paper money but a pin machine. In Ticket to Ride you get on a train to travel around the world. Settlers of Catan has been on the table to play with friends every weekend for years. Definitely fun to do with older kids. Another fun game that never gets boring is Carcassonne. Here you really have to play tactically to be able to win and with all the expansions this is really an evening filling game. A game that always makes us squirm is Party & Co. There are several variants of this game and one is even crazier than the other. Party & Co Extreme is a real hit with us. We also like to play the detective game Cluedo.

Classic games

The real classic board games have become indispensable in the game cupboard. Think of Aggravation, Blackboard, Puzzles, Stratego and checkers or chess. Rummikub and Scrabble can also get the title “classic” as far as we are concerned, because everyone knows them and has them somewhere. Get those out again on New Year’s Eve!

Do-games

You may have to make sense of it as an adult, but once you engage in a real do-game, it is often hilarious. An example, of course, is the widely known Shuffleboard. This game remains fun, especially on special nights like Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. And definitely don’t forget Twister in this list. Really funny, all those arms and legs in a knot. With the game Trap er Niet In, you have to dodge the turds blindfolded. Kids like this from the start because it involves poop. Speak Out is fun because with special teeth in, you have to do different tasks that others have to guess. This is really challenging and is guaranteed to be super funny. With Pie Face, it can get messy, so keep that in mind ahead of time. This game is purely about luck. If you don’t have that, you’ll end up with a handful of whipped cream in your face.

Mind games

Do you like to challenge yourself and your family? Then Smartgames ‘ mind games are definitely a must! There are already brainteasers for children as young as 3 years old and stimulate you to think differently. They are fun and challenging for the whole family and, very conveniently, great to do on your own! Useful for when you don’t feel like playing a game and your child does. Examples of thinking games are: the IQ Puzzler Pro, Jack and the Beanstalk, Temple Trap, Road Block and Quadrillion. But the old familiar Rubix cube also belongs in this list.

Conversation starters

Finally, we take you through the conversation starters. These games are ideal for families who are busy and don’t always get around to really asking what’s on each other’s minds. There are many different types of conversation starters. Examples are the so-called Chatter Pots, the Ask But Touch Pots and the packs of Vertellis cards and Open Up candid cards. You have them for the whole family but also for just you and your partner. These cards are guaranteed to be a success because you will find that even the stiffest adolescent gets excited about them!
