What to do in August

Time is flying by! We are already in August and this month too there is plenty on the calendar. Many events revolve around the summer vacations, but there is plenty of entertainment even without children. Good food, swinging and enjoying fun performances: these are our favorites this month:

Minecraft at Geofort

During the summer vacationsGeofort is open daily between 10:00 and 17:00 and they organize all sorts of things! For example, they have rebuilt all of the Netherlands with as many as 1,000 billion Minecraft blocks. Can you find your own house? There are also several Minecraft workshops to choose from. Break the code at the Minecraft Climate Game, learn programming or watch Minecraft in VR. In addition, the park is open to many more fun activities. Terrace Cinema Rotterdam

From August 14 to September 7, you can enjoy films and fun with a drink on the terrace of LantarenVenster on the Rijnhaven in Rotterdam from sunset. The Terrasbios offers film classics and real summer movies. Admission costs €10 and your ticket indicates what time the film starts.

Pasar Malam Istimewa in the center of Dordrecht

Not on vacation, still on vacation! From August 4 to 7, the center of Dordrecht will be transformed into an exotic paradise with the Pasar Malam Istimewa. Go on a culinary journey of discovery, enjoy live performances and get greedy for all the handmade products at the 100 stands. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the festival is open until 8:30 pm and on Sunday until 7:00 pm. Admission is free!

Amersfoort World Jazz Festival

Jazz and World music lovers beware! From August 14 to 18, as many as 100 different indoor and outdoor performances will be given at various historic sites in Amersfoort. During the Amersfoort World Jazz Festival there are both free and paid concerts. Prices range from €2.50 to €15.

Zuiderpark Holiday Park

Until Aug. 22, there is plenty to do and experience at the Zuiderparktheater in The Hague. The theater is free to enter during the summer vacation with fun performances every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Every Thursday at 14:00 there is a children’s performance. For some performances you need a ticket. On the festival grounds there is a children’s craft garden, a coffee bar, a park library, several unexpected performances and workshops. There are also other activities to do such as playing on the raft, ping pong, lounging and much more. Check the website for the program.

Summer Feelings in Toverland

Amusement park Toverland in Sevenum (Limburg) is open extra long during the summer vacations! Until August 25 you can visit daily between 10:00 and 21:00 hours. Besides the crazy attractions, there is plenty of summer entertainment such as atmospheric music, exciting shows and delicious treats. You can even stay overnight at the park at the pop-up Summer Camp!

Vondelpark Open Air Theatre

Through Aug. 31, you can enjoy summer song, music and dance at the Vondelpark Open Air Theater. On Friday evening you can enjoy various dance performances there. On Saturday afternoon the stage is reserved for fun and entertaining family performances in the Saturday evening is dedicated to comedy. Sunday morning is for quiet waking up with classical music and in the afternoon they close the weekend with nice (pop) music. Admission is free, but a donation is requested.
