Our guest blogger Marian is totally in the soccer vibe after she visited 14, the theater spectacle about Johan Cruijff in the just opened AFAS theater in Leusden (not in Amsterdam) . In this blog, she shares her experience with you.

My father-in-law invited the family to go to the theater spectacle about Johan Cruijff together. It was great fun to do something like that and especially to see my nephew of almost 12 years old enjoying it so much. As a real soccer fan, he immediately went for a picture by Johan Cruijff’s car. He was all dressed up and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful entourage. What a beautiful building the AFAS theater is,a large domed glass building through which the inside beckonsfrom the roadin the dark .From the foyer you can look out everywhere.

Underneath the building we could park and it was only a few steps walk to the elevator/stairs. A drink upon entry, always nice too, and clear signage in the buildingto our room.

The hall is very nice and the acoustics are perfect. By the way, I saw on the AFAS website, “the air quality in the theater is as good as in an operating room. It was indeed noticeable from everything that it is luxurious and equipped with all modern technology.

Someone in the row with us was in a wheelchair. For that, two seats had been lifted out of the attachment so that the wheelchair could stand there and his wife could just sit next to him on a normal theater seat. The AFAS is also suitable for people who are less mobile. Wheelchair accessible: check!

Enough about the beautiful AFAS, on to Johan Cruijff! I love theater, so I don’t say no to an offer to go along anyway. I turn on the TV when the Dutch team is playing, does that say enough about my soccer interests? Johan Cruijff I know by name, I think because of his good one-liners and his good soccer skills. Who doesn’t.

This theatricalspectacle… from minute one we were hanging on his every word! How brilliantly Tobias Nieropplays the lead role! The monologues are very coolly conceived and the great variety of singing, dancing, music, video and archival footage combined with the beautiful outfits made itan absolute delight! Really enjoying those outfits, singing and dancing! And as a bonus, I now know everything about Johan Cruijff and can join in the conversation.

In short:I enjoyed it! And Leusden is nice and central in the country, convenient for our family that lives scattered around. Just a word about the theater. Now we had to leave quickly, but next time I will take the time to look at the art in the theater! And if you’re still looking for a Christmas gift for a true soccer fan, this is sure to fall into place!

Soccer greetings, Marian
