Activities that are nice and offline

Our lives have become incredibly digital in recent years. At work, but also privately, we find ourselves more and more in a virtual world. All part of it, of course, but how nice it is to be offline once in a while! We went in search of fun offline activities for you.
Get on your bike!
Cycling is a fun, enjoyable and offline activity. You can of course cycle into a nature reserve in your own surroundings, but you can also choose a whole new area. Rent bikes and do the Castles Route in Gelderland or do the Eight Castles Route in the Achterhoek. Or choose the Kastelenroute on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. There is plenty to see and experience during these bike tours. All you have to do is follow the posts, so you can leave your phone at home (although of course you’ll need it to take great pictures!). No nature around? A nice offline bike ride around town is always fun too!
Nice walk
What you can do on a bike, you can of course also do on foot. In Oosterhout, for example, you have a nice Kloosterroute that goes mostly through green areas, but there are also nice walking routes to do especially in winter. Do you prefer walking in the city? Then do a dark city walk from The Little Walk of Horrors! Totally offline, without a guide and at your own pace.
Organize a game night!
Or get out your board games on a rainy Sunday. Often rainy days are those days when everyone prefers to lose themselves in the world of Instagram, Facebook and Tiktok. Do a game together! Grab something tasty to eat and drink and you’re guaranteed to have fun. Play classic board games such as Mens Erger Je Niet, Stratego or have a good laugh at the challenges of Party & Co Family by Jumbo Play. For even more fun game night tips, check out this blog.
Try a new hobby
During the winter months, the days, although shorter, sometimes seem tremendously long. Therefore, find a fun new hobby that allows you to put your hands to work creatively. Or dust off your old photo camera and get outside. Take pictures of beautiful and special places in your own environment or just explore another city. If you are looking for inspiration, maybe this blog can help you get started.
Sports and dancing
Do you like to exercise and get out and about? Then join a sports or dance school! Of course, you can join a gym in your area, but you can also choose to join a lady’s only gym. Some women feel more comfortable with that. Want to get strong muscles so you can be stronger in your shoes? Then opt for pilates. Fun to do and incredibly effective. You can dance anywhere, but why not choose a dance that not many people practice like Flamenco! You can learn to dance Flamenco all over the Netherlands, but Liz Dans in Scheveningen and Rijswijk is a really good and fun school. There are regular trial classes you can participate in.
Lose yourself in a book
Also nice offline: read a book! Do you opt for a romantic feelgood, do you like to read historical novels or do you prefer to find the suspense in a good thriller? Flipping through a magazine is also always a nice pastime. While e-books are of course officially digital, we still think this is offline. After all, you’re not scrolling aimlessly on the Internet. And at least e-books can also be read in the dark. Nice when you have an exciting book!
Visit a museum or exhibition
This is an activity you can do alone and with several people. Take your family to a fun hands-on museum such as Geofort. Not only fun, but educational as well. More tips on hands-on museums can be found here. Or dive into the world of Dutch grandmasters at the Mauritshuis or Rijksmuseum. Also fun: Museum Voorlinden.
